An interpromotional Champion vs. Champion match may be on the horizon.
At IMPACT x NJPW Multiverse United 2, IMPACT X-Division Champion Lio Rush pinned IWGP Junior Heavyweight Champion Hiromu Takahashi after hitting him below the belt.
In a post-match promo, Rush challenged Takahashi to a title match, and he seemingly accepted. The title match has not been officially announced at the time of writing.
Takahashi already agreed to defend the title against Mike Bailey after “Speedball” won the All Star Junior USA Festival. Fans chanted “Triple Threat” at Multiverse United 2, as Bailey was Takahashi’s partner in the tag team match.
Lio Rush and Takahashi have shared the ring before. The NJPW star defeated Rush to retain the gold at the NJPW New Japan Cup Final in March. Rush subsequently defeated Takahashi during the Best of the Super Junior 30 tournament.
