Tyrus Explains Why He’s Retiring, Says Match Stipulation Was His Idea

Tyrus is calling it a career. His last match carried the stipulation that he must retire. As it turns out, the whole thing was his idea in the first place.

The former NWA World’s Heavyweight Champion spoke with SLAM Wrestling after NWA 75 and said he was at peace with the match. “I’m good,” he said. “We beat the hell out of each other. Everything is in slow motion.”

Tyrus said the retirement stipulation was his idea, citing his age and desire to be around for his children more often.

“[They wanted] Daddy to be home more often,” Tyrus said, adding that he could now attend their various sports games and take them fishing. “It was all my idea.”

“The NWA is exploding,” he added. “So, EC3 will be defending all over. I feel he has been overlooked a lot. Me and him, just seemed right.”

In Good Hands

Tyrus said the NWA is in good hands. Billy Corgan was surprised by his decision but said he could always come back. “He said, you are family. You always have a place in the NWA.”

Tyrus will continue to appear on television outside of the NWA, but he hopes to spend more time with his mentors and peers. He also might have another career move lined up, if he wants it.

“I was always told I would be a great agent,” Tyrus said.
