The Rock On His In-Ring Return: It’s Not The Injuries That I’m Concerned With

Former WWE Champion The Rock has not wrestled a match in WWE since WrestleMania 32. That was an unadvertised six-second win over Erick Rowan. Prior to that, his last advertised match was a loss to John Cena at WrestleMania 29.

Recently, The People’s Champion was a special guest on the Pat McAfee Show. During the episode, the Great One mentioned that his favorite WrestleMania match was against John Cena.

“But I would probably say the last WrestleMania I headlined with John Cena. We’re at MetLife Stadium, New York. And I went in as WWE Champion, the whole idea of the match was at the end of the match I was going to crown him champion. We were going to crown him champion, pass the torch, he goes on as champion and I walk off into the sunset,” The Rock said.

It Always Comes Down To This

He also recalled that during the match he suffered a major injury. That left him in doubt if he could continue the match or not. McAfee asked if the main reason behind his absence from WWE was the fact that he could get injured in the ring. McAfee also wondered if those injuries could affect The Rock’s Hollywood schedule.

“Honestly brother it’s not… it’s not the injuries that I’m concerned about because that’s just part of it. It’s just part of the game you sign up for it, you get hurt, we all get hurt. That’s just the way it is, it’s not even a schedule, because I could control the schedule to a large degree. It always comes to me going back to WWE and wrestling a match, always comes down to the reason why and what can we create that’s never been done before for the fans.”

The Great One recently returned to WWE and laid the SmackDown on former United States Champion Austin Theory.
