Reported Reason Why AEW International Title Keeps Changing Hands

Reported news on why the AEW International Championship keeps switching hands as of late.

Championship belts in wrestling don’t get passed around in a game of hot potato as much as they used to in the days of the Monday Night War. However, the AEW International Championship has changed hands a number of times in the past month and a half from Orange Cassidy to Jon Moxley, to Rey Fenix, and back to Orange Cassidy.

A new report from Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful Select (subscription required), has now shared some details as to why the championship keeps changing hands.

Jon Moxley Was Never Meant To Lose The Title

Reportedly, Jon Moxley was never supposed to lose the AEW International Title to Rey Fenix, but he was injured and an audible was made during their AEW Dynamite: Grand Slam encounter. However, All Elite Wrestling had initial plans to put the championship back on Jon Moxley for the October 10 episode of AEW Dynamite.

Unfortunately, it was announced on the day of the event, that Jon Moxley would not be cleared for the show. This led to Orange Cassidy regaining the championship and becoming the first two-time AEW International Titleholder.

Rey Fenix Is Also Dealing With Injuries And Visa Issues

Per the report, whoever was booked against Rey Fenix would have likely won the championship.

According to those close to him, Fenix is dealing with issues pertaining to his work Visa that will keep him from appearing on AEW TV for an indeterminate amount of time. As such, the decision was made to crown a new champion when Fenix was never supposed to hold the championship to begin with.

We will continue to report any and all updates on the condition of Jon Moxley and wish him a speedy recovery.
