Sami Zayn Needed 15 Staples After Getting Busted Open At 12/29 WWE Live Event

Sami Zayn was the last man standing, but he still needed medical attention after the show.

Sami Zayn faced Finn Balor in a Last Man Standing match at the December 29 live event in Toronto. During the match, Balor was put through a table by Zayn. Part of the table hit Zayn in the head and cut him open.

Zayn still won the match but did not compete the following night in Los Angeles. He was also held off of WWE RAW this week, and the commentary team shared that he needed 15 staples to close the wound in his head.

Sami Zayn returned to action for last week’s tour after having some requested time off. Zayn had been absent since December 4, when Drew McIntyre attacked him on WWE RAW.

Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens beat Dominik Mysterio and Finn Balor at a live event in Laval, Quebec, Canada on December 28. After the match, Zayn addressed the crowd and explained why the match was even more special than his main-event bout at Elimination Chamber. (Clip courtesy of @CartierNDG on Twitter)

“Every single time I come, I think, man, that was special,” Sami Zayn said. “There’s no way next time will be quite as special. Guess what? Next time is even more special. I’ve said this over and over and over for 10 years. After Elimination Chamber in Montreal, with all of you in my corner, I thought there was no way it could get more special than that, but again I was wrong. Because tonight is somehow more special again.

“Tonight is even more special because I’m a little bit of a private person, I keep some of this stuff to myself, some of you might not know this, but I have a little boy. He’s this cutie patootie right here in the red shirt. When I’m at home, I’m not WWE superstar Sami Zayn. I’m just [Dad]. This young man has never seen me wrestle, he knows nothing about what I do. Tonight is the first time ever that he sees me in this ring.”
