TJ Wilson On Being A Producer: I Do Feel This Is A Bigger Contribution Than My In-Ring Career

TJ Wilson‘s WWE career is stronger than ever as a backstage producer for the company.

TJ Wilson and Natalya recently sat down with TMZ Sports. When asked about the recognition he’s received in recent years as a WWE Producer, Wilson reflected on the incredible journey he’s had in that role.

“Yeah, I mean, it’s been an incredible journey with that,” TJ Wilson admitted. “There wasn’t a path laid out. When you referenced my neck injury, I had a career-ending injury. When you do something for 20 years straight, and all of a sudden you can’t do it anymore, you have to pivot.

“And that’s life, but it takes a minute to figure out what that actual path is, and how do I get to what I even want to do, and how do I get there. It was a very tricky situation, that somehow, thanks to Nattie and I, we have a great support system at work and a great circle of friends. I was able to land on my feet and figure this thing out that I like to do.

“I’ve coached people before, but when I coached before, I could physically get in there and do everything with them. I can’t do that now. So when I coach, I have to work a lot more on my verbal communication to make it so that they can understand exactly what I’m saying verbally rather than always being able to physically show them, which is a very different skill set completely.”

It’s a big game of catch-up

When asked if he feels the contributions he’s making in WWE now are more important than what he did as an in-ring competitor, Wilson believes that to be the case.

“Nattie knows I say this a lot, and I have goosebumps when you were kind of laying that all out because it is true. I do feel this is a bigger contribution than my in-ring career,” TJ Wilson said. “However, I needed all the experiences and all that time on my own in-ring career to be able to apply everything on this side of things.

“I don’t have any kind of regret of anything in my wrestling career by any means. But I definitely feel a greater sense of accomplishment and achievement on this side of things. I work almost exclusively with the women for the past few years, and to see them — it’s a big game of catch-up. Nattie and I were speaking earlier; this is going to be the seventh Women’s Royal Rumble. This is the 36th Men’s Royal Rumble. We’re playing a big game of catch-up here.”
