Sting Would’ve Loved To Face Kenny Omega One-On-One In AEW

Sting holds Kenny Omega in high regard.

During his three-year run with All Elite Wrestling, Sting was primarily positioned in tag team competition alongside his ally Darby Allin and a variety of additional partners. If given the opportunity though, Sting would have also embraced singles matches with some of AEW’s top and rising stars. While speaking with Pro Wrestling Illustrated, “The Icon” revealed which AEW talents he was particularly keen on facing one-on-one.

“A lot of wrestling fans thought for sure that Darby was going to turn on me, or that I was going to turn on him! But you know, I would have loved to have had a match against Kenny Omega,” Sting said. “Kenny is legitimate world champ material. Obviously, he’s been AEW World champion, but, to me, sometimes how good he is goes underappreciated because he’s never been with WWE; some people think he doesn’t deserve his accolades. But he is one of the best all-around world heavyweight champions I’ve ever seen, one of the best in the wrestling industry.”

The ‘Big Guys’

Apart from the established Kenny Omega, Sting wishes he could have tangled up with two of the “giants” in AEW as well.

“Then there are some of the new guys coming up, the big guys—thinking about my matches with Vader—what a talent a guy like Big Bill is. He’s got the goods. He’s got the fire,” Sting said. “Satnam (Singh) is another one. He moves really, really good, but you’ve got to utilize guys like him ASAP because big men don’t last as long, unfortunately. Let’s try to get as much as we can out of him while he’s young.”

While they never squared off one-on-one, Sting and Big Bill did share the ring on two occasions under the AEW umbrella. A month after Sting and Darby Allin captured victory over Big Bill and Ricky Starks in an eight-man tag team match, the two teams met on the February 7 episode of AEW Dynamite. It was here that Sting and Allin unseated Bill and Starks to win the AEW World Tag Team Championships. These, of course, are also the same titles that Sting and Allin would successfully defend in Sting’s retirement match at AEW Revolution.
