Goldberg Recalls First Conversation With Eric Bischoff About Joining WCW

Goldberg recalls his offer to join WCW.

The WWE Hall of Famer recently sat down with Tim Green on Nothing Left Unsaid to talk about his career in and out of the ring. During their conversation, Goldberg was asked about how he contacted Eric Bischoff at WCW right after WWE made him an offer.

“I specifically remember the phone call where I picked up the phone. I had an offer on the table from WWE. It expired within 24 hours, and I called Eric Bischoff. I knew Bischoff and I said, ‘Listen, Eric, I don’t want to be cocky and I don’t want to be an asshole, but if I’m going to do this, I’m going to make a difference and I’m going to be somebody. I’m not gonna be one of those $500, throw-around-the-ring dudes that you forget about.’

“And that was my statement. The door opened, and hopefully, it will be just like Gage’s entrance in Colorado. All I needed was a door open and then I did my work. I applied everything that Peter Holt taught me. I applied everything that Mike Gann taught me. And I did it in the world of professional wrestling as opposed to doing it in the NFL.”

Goldberg: I Know I Would Succeed, But A Lot Had To Happen

When asked if he was confident he would reach the top, Goldberg shared that he had the mindset of not letting anything get in his way until he succeeded in his goals.

“I knew in my own heart that I would succeed, but there had to be a lot to happen for that to come true,” Goldberg added. “And I was lucky I was in the right place at the right time with the right work ethic at the right time to be that character on television. It was a genie in a bottle. I was extremely lucky.”
