Women’s Wrestling Wrap-Up: Liv Morgan Dethrones The Man, Mercedes Moné Wins TBS Title, LA Taylor Interview

Liv Morgan dethrones “The Man” Becky Lynch at WWE King and Queen of the Ring. Mercedes Mone wins the TBS Championship. LA Taylor chats with WrestleZone, and more! Let’s break it down in this week’s edition of Women’s Wrestling Wrap-Up.

Liv Morgan Gets Her Revenge

Since returning to action at the 2024 Royal Rumble, Liv Morgan has fixated on avenging the shoulder injury that took her off the shelf for six months. To do this, Morgan aimed her proverbial arrow at the very woman who took her out — Rhea Ripley — and the championship that laid around her waist for over a year. After a relentless pursuit, Morgan has now struck both.

Two days after Ripley’s successful title defense over Becky Lynch at WrestleMania 40, Morgan viciously attacked her on WWE Raw. Unfortunately for Ripley, this backstage assault resulted in an injury that would force her to relinquish the WWE Women’s World Championship. Lynch would later seize possession of the title by winning a battle royal on the April 22 episode of Raw. Her respective reign, though, came to a dramatic end at the hands of Liv Morgan last weekend.

At the 2024 WWE King and Queen of the Ring premium live event, a revenge-fueled Morgan challenged Lynch for the WWE Women’s World Championship. And with some inadvertent help from Judgment Day’s Dominik Mysterio, Morgan emerged victorious, marking the beginning of her second world title reign.

Elsewhere on the WWE King and Queen of the Ring card, Nia Jax defeated Lyra Valkyria in the Queen of the Ring tournament finals. With this win, Jax has guaranteed herself a WWE Women’s Championship match at WWE SummerSlam.

The Revenge Tour Continues

Coming off her victory at WWE King and Queen of the Ring, Liv Morgan asserted that while she may have obtained her redemption (and the WWE Women’s World Championship), her revenge tour was far from over.

“I waited eight long months for this moment, to get revenge, to get redemption,” Morgan told WWE’s The Bump. “To show Rhea Ripley why she made the biggest mistake of her entire life. Because I did what nobody said I could do. I finally beat Becky Lynch, and I got my revenge on Rhea Ripley and became new Women’s World Champion. But you know what? I have a feeling that the Liv Morgan revenge tour is just getting started.”

The first test of Morgan’s Women’s World Championship reign came two days after her big win, as she defended the title against Lynch in a main event steel cage match on Raw. Much like WWE King and Queen of the Ring, Dominik Mysterio’s attempts to aid Lynch to victory backfired. This time, the diversion came courtesy of Braun Strowman as he rammed Mysterio into the door of the steel cage at the same time Lynch was trying to escape. This sequence of events ultimately allowed Morgan to escape the cage herself moments later and retain the Women’s World Championship.

Post-match, Morgan celebrated her win by locking lips with Dominik Mysterio, who has remained a long-time ally of Rhea Ripley.

Mercedes Moné Captures TBS Championship At AEW Double Or Nothing

“The CEO” is back on top.

After a year on the shelf, Mercedes Moné made her long-awaited in ring return at AEW Double or Nothing. For this occasion, Moné challenged Willow Nightingale for the TBS Championship. These two, of course, are no strangers to one another, as Nightingale notably defeated Moné to secure the NJPW STRONG Women’s Championship in May 2023. This go-around, though, it was Moné who stood in victory.

With the TBS Championship on the line, Moné and Nightingale fought feverishly to gain the upperhand. As expected, Nightingale seized the power advantage throughout the match, while a resilient Moné pushed back with some crafty submissions and speed. In the end, this determination led Moné to the win after hitting Nightingale with the Moné-maker.

(Nightingale’s Double or Nothing experience didn’t just result in the loss of the TBS Championship, but also her best friend, as Kris Statlander betrayed her in stunning fashion.)

Three days after her pay-per-view win, the newly-crowned TBS Champion was confronted by another noteworthy champion — that being NJPW STRONG Women’s Champion Stephanie Vaquer. Moné’s staredown with Vaquer took place just moments after she successful defended the TBS Championship on Skye Blue on AEW Dynamite.

Earlier in the episode, All Elite Wrestling teased the idea of bringing Vaquer to the upcoming AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door pay-per-view. Evidently, it now appears that Vaquer is specifically aiming to face Moné at the event.

WWE x TNA Crossover

While AEW now prepares for Forbidden Door, a surprising name has once again stepped through the prohibited portal to WWE.

On Tuesday’s episode of WWE NXT, General Manager Ava revealed the next challenger for Roxanne Perez‘s NXT Women’s Championship. In a shocking twist, this opponent turned out to be TNA Knockouts Champion Jordynne Grace, who proclaimed her intentions of soon becoming a double champion.

Grace previously competed in the 2024 WWE Women’s Royal Rumble match. Looking forward, she will now face Perez at the WWE NXT Battleground premium live event. This will mark the first ever in-ring encounter between Perez and Grace, and the fourth televised title defense in Perez’s current reign.

Upset by the idea of Grace receiving a title match ahead of her, NXT’s Stevie Turner now has the opportunity to stall Grace’s momentum when the two go one-on-one on next week’s episode of NXT.

Elsewhere on NXT Battleground, Sol Ruca, Lash Legend, Fallon Henley, Jaida Parker, Michin and Kelani Jordan will collide in a six-pack ladder match to determine the inaugural NXT Women’s North American Champion.
