WWE SummerSlam 2025

WWE Summerslam 2025: NJSEA Used Funds From Pandemic Relief To Secure Event

Summerslam 2025 is set to take place in New Jersey, although the details behind the show have become controversial.

Last month, Summerslam 2025 was confirmed as taking place at Metlife Stadium in New Jersey. It will be a two-night event for the first time, mimicking WrestleMania’s layout since 2020.

This will take place on August 2nd and 3rd, and was announced by Cardi B. Summerslam 2025 looks set to be one of the biggest events in WWE history, but is already attracting controversy.

In a new report by Katie Sobko of North Jersey, the New Jersey Sports and Exposition Authority allocated $7.125 million to help secure New Jersey as the host of Summerslam.

However, these funds reportedly came from the American Rescue Plan funding. These funds were initially given by the Federal Government as pandemic relief funds. The money was allocated “to be used to assist MetLife with securing and hosting the WWE SummerSlam in East Rutherford next summer.”.

The event is reportedly set to boost the local economy by $80 million for the weekend. If this is correct, it seems like a good investment, despite issues with where money was allocated from.

More details on SummerSlam 2025

WWE is hosting the 2025 event in conjunction with the New Jersey Sports and Exposition Authority (NJSEA).

“New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy and the entire NJSEA team have been phenomenal partners, hosting several major UFC events in recent years including the record-breaking UFC 302 in June,” Peter Dropick, TKO Executive Vice President of Event Development and Operations, said in a press release. “We’re excited to bring WWE back to New Jersey in a major way with the first-ever two-night SummerSlam at MetLife Stadium.”

This is the fourth time SummerSlam will take place in East Rutherford. However, it’s the first time the show will be at MetLife Stadium, which hosted WrestleMania 29 and 35. SummerSlam 1989 took place at the Brendan Byrne Arena (later renamed the Continental Airlines Arena). The 1997 and 2007 events were at the same venue.
