Some fans might think Seth Rollins is the devil after what he did at WrestleMania 41, but he actually worked a match dressed as the Prince of Darkness early in his career.
Prior to joining WWE in 2010, Seth Rollins was known as Tyler Black, and he built his name on the Midwest indie scene and in Ring of Honor. Rollins made an appearance at a Fanatics Live Signing at WWE World, where he was asked about wrestling as Satan.
Rollins explained that he was doing a comedy show around 2005 or 2006, which would have been the first year or two of his wrestling career. He went to buy the costume, but all the store had was female devil costumes. He joked that it was a preview of some of the outlandish things he wears today, adding that this situation only happens in pro wrestling.
Seth Rollins explains why he wrestled as the devil
“It was a comedy wrestling show held by Joey Eastman in probably, 2005 or [2006] in Chicago, Illinois. Midlothian, Illinois, actually, it’s a suburb of Chicago. And on the Halloween or comedy show, I can’t remember if it was one or the other, I dressed as the devil,” Seth Rollins explained. “But, at the local Halloween store — costume store, can’t remember; again, long time ago — they only had female devil costumes.
“In a little precursor to the clothes I wear now, yes, I wore that devil costume for that particular show. I think I may have interfered in a match involving Jesus as well. I don’t know what was going on,” Rollins said. “Only in wrestling.”
There you have it. The man known as ‘Crossfit Jesus’ was also the devil. The duality of man.
Seth Rollins aligned with Paul Heyman at WrestleMania 41. Heyman went on to claim that he did not betray Roman Reigns or CM Punk. Rollins and Heyman continued making big moves on RAW the next night, as they seemingly added Bron Breakker to their ranks.
