Rob Van Dam Broke Both Of His Heels During Recent MLW Match

Rob Van Dam is dealing with a pretty significant injury after his latest in-ring appearance.

RVD confirmed that he broke both of his heels on the latest episode of his 1 of a Kind podcast. He confirmed that the injury took place after landing on the floor during MLW’s recent Battle Riot match in Los Angeles.

“A couple weeks ago, I had a match with MLW. A lot of people saw that. A lot of people don’t know that I got hurt because it was the very last move of the night,” Rob Van Dam said (via F4WOnline.com). “I went up to the top rope and Matt Riddle pushed me off, and the way I landed on my feet — normally, I kind of hug the guardrail and my weight goes into it. This time, I must have misjudged it a little bit, and I just landed on my feet. Both heels blew, I thought that my ankles were sprained. I crawled out of there, I haven’t been able to walk since. I got the X-rays, both heels broke.”

RVD still appeared during WrestleMania week in Las Vegas

PWInsider.com initially reported that RVD was hurt during the match. However, it was originally believed that RVD only rolled his ankle during the match.

Rob Van Dam noted that the injury “definitely made me cancel a lot of plans that I had for the next few months.” Despite the injury, RVD said he still managed to fulfill all of his WrestleMania week appearances in Las Vegas.

MLW Battle Riot VII marked RVD’s debut in Major League Wrestling. This was also his first advertised match since he competed in a “High Flying 4/20 Elimination Four Way” against Isiah Kassidy, Komander and Lee Johnson on the April 20, 2024 episode of AEW Rampage.

RVD has shared his thoughts on retirement before, telling Chris Van Vliet how he approaches the subject. Read more about how RVD feels about the fanfare behind a retirement and if he would do that himself here.
