WWE NXT Results: Review, Grades, Card For May 6

Our WWE NXT results for tonight include Giulia going one-on-one with Jordynne Grace, a number one contender’s battle royal, and TNA World Heavyweight Champion Joe Hendry will be in action.

WWE NXT Card

The announced card is as follows:

  • NXT Women’s Championship #1 Contenders Match: Jordynne Grace vs. Giulia
  • Battle Royal for the #1 Contendership of the NXT Championship
  • Joe Hendry, Hank, and Tank vs. DarkState
  • Kelani Jordan vs. Zaria

WWE NXT Results:

This week’s episode of WWE NXT kicks off with shots of Jordynne Grace, Giulia, Je’Von Evans, and others, including a few TNA talents, entering the building for tonight’s event.

Joe Hendry, Hank, and Tank vs. DarkState

  • The finish of the match saw Trick Williams get involved with Joe Hendry, allowing DarkState to get the pinfall victory over Hank and Tank.

Winners: DarkState

Grade: C

Not a great opener. Beyond Hendry, I just don’t care about any of these people. DarkState is Retribution 2.0, and the Hank and Tank push to the titles is still very puzzling to me. Not an enjoyable start to tonight’s show for me.

More CW drama on NXT

Backstage, Karmen Petrovic is whining to Thea Hail about what happened to her last week and says she can’t afford to have any more distractions, given how deep the women’s division is in NXT. Jaida Parker comes in and mocks Petrovic, setting up a match for the two later in the show.

Backstage, the No Quarter Catch Crew hype up tonight’s battle royal, and Charlie Dempsey states how important it is that one of them wins this match and takes one step closer to challenging Oba Femi for the NXT Championship.

Kelani Jordan vs. Zaria (w/ Sol Ruca)

  • The finish of the match saw Zaria hit Kelani Jordan with the F5 to score the pinfall victory.

Winner: Zaria

After the match, Zaria and Sol Ruca share a hug in the ring. It’s so obvious these two will be competing for that title sooner rather than later.

Grade: B

This was a much better match than the opener. They should have opened up tonight’s show with this and started the episode on a much more positive note. Jordan and Zaria have good chemistry together, and I think it will only get better as they share the ring together in the future.

Tony D’Angelo doesn’t have time for Wes Lee

Backstage, Tony D’Angelo is on the phone talking to someone. He’s interrupted by Wes Lee and his henchmen. Lee gets on D’Angelo for not having his family around and not being in tonight’s battle royal. D’Angelo challenges him to fight him and Lee backs down.

Backstage, Lola Vice is talking to Stephanie Vaquer. Vice says she believes if anyone can come out of Battleground with their championship, it will be her, but makes a point to mention that after that event, she’s looking for the next title shot. Giulia comes in and tells Vaquer she hasn’t forgotten and she’ll see her at Battleground.

TNA Wrestling’s Elijah (FKA Elias) was the last entrant into tonight’s battle royal.

NXT Championship #1 Contender’s Battle Royal

  • The finish of the match saw Myles Borne toss Shawn Spears and Ethan Page out in the end to score the victory.

Winner: Myles Borne

After the match, the No Quarter Catch Crew hit the ring to celebrate with Borne. Charlie Dempsey comes out, but doesn’t enter the ring.

Grade: B-

This battle royal really exposed how thin the men’s division is right now in NXT. The match needed several people from TNA and Evolve (which is a hilarious statement in itself) to fill these spots. As deep as the women’s division is on this show, the men’s division continues to need a lot of help. The match itself was a very average paint-by-numbers battle royal; there was nothing special or offensive about it.

Jaida Parker vs. Karmen Petrovic

  • The finish of the match saw Jaida Parker hit Karmen Petrovic with a hip strike to score the pinfall victory.

Winner: Jaida Parker

After the match, Parker continued to attack Petrovic until Thea Hail hit the ring to save her friend.

Grade: C+

As great as the chemistry was earlier between Zaria and Kelani Jordan, I didn’t see that in this match between Parker and Petrovic. It was fine, not great. It could have been worse.

The TNA World Championship will be on the line at Battleground

Joe Hendry is backstage in Ava’s office. Ava says she can’t have Hendry and Trick Williams continue to attack one another across both NXT and TNA. Hendry says he won’t back down. Ava says she knows that and knows Trick won’t back down either. Ava says she spoke to Santino, and at Battleground, it will be Hendry versus Williams for the TNA Championship.

Yoshiki Inamura is heading back to Japan

Backstage, Wes Lee is on the phone with someone to confirm a match is set. Lee tells Tyson and Tyriek that everyone has a price. The cameras shift over to Josh Briggs and Yoshiki Inamura have a heart-to-heart moment. Inamura believes he let Briggs down two weeks in a row, and he’s heading back to Japan. Briggs is upset, and The Culling gives him grief about it, implying that he’s been the problem all along.

#1 Contender’s Match: Giulia vs. Jordynne Grace

  • The finish of the match saw Jordynne Grace hit Giulia with the Juggernaut Driver to score the pinfall victory.

Winner: And new #1 contender, Jordynne Grace

Grade: A-

After the match, Stephanie Vaquer came to the ring and faced off with Jordynne Grace as WWE NXT goes off the air.

WWE NXT Review:

This was a very up-and-down show. The main event really saved the night and helped make this show a lot better than it was going to be. The Battleground card is coming together, and it will be very interesting to see how the build continues next week.

Grade: B-
