A fan was reportedly upset with the actions of MJF at AEW Grand Slam Mexico.
AEW Grand Slam Mexico took place at Arena México in Mexico City, featuring stars from both AEW and CMLL. The event was a major collaboration between the two companies. One of the night’s most controversial moments came during MJF’s match against Mistico, formerly known as Sin Cara in WWE.
In the final moment of the match, Mistico locked Max in La Mistica, and he tapped out. However, the referee didn’t see it because MVP distracted him. As Mistico stood up, MJF hit him with a low blow. Mistico still kicked out, which shocked MJF. In frustration, MJF hit another low blow right in front of the referee, who immediately called for a disqualification.
Following the match, The Hurt Syndicate kept attacking Mistico. MJF showed major disrespect by grabbing Mistico’s mask and showing it off to the fans. He took things further by putting it on and giving the middle finger to the fans.
While Bandido, Templario, Titan, Kevin Knight and “Speedball” Mike Bailey came out for Mistico help, which saw The Hurt Syndicate retreat.
What happened between MJF and a fan?
MJF’s actions angered at least one fan, who reportedly confronted him at a hotel near the airport after the show. According to Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful, MJF wasn’t harmed and seemed to take pride in the strong reaction he received. Sapp wrote, “A fan went after MJF at the hotel connected to the airport tonight after AEW/CMLL Grand Slam Mexico. He was fine and seemed proud the heat was that good.”
Fightful (via Fightful Select) later added that Max “laughed off the situation.” The outlet did not hear of any other incidents, but AEW was “very happy with how the show turned out.”
