Newly-crowned IWGP Women’s Champion Sareee has major plans to begin her reign, and competing in STARDOM‘s 5 Star Grand Prix is one of them.
The Sun God spoke to Tokyo Sports following her massive victory over Syuri to win the prestigious IWGP Women’s Title. Sareee explained that she does not want the belt to exist for the sake of defenses. She wishes to elevate its prestige even in non-title competition by naming the upcoming 5 Star Grand Prix tournament.
“I want to challenge myself. 5 Star Grand Prix is starting soon at Stardom, right? I want to take part in that. If I participate, I think it will be the most exciting league ever. I will keep up this momentum and defeat all the wrestlers from Stardom, the number one promotion in women’s professional wrestling, and become the true ace of the women’s professional wrestling world. I’ll take them all on one by one,” she says.
Sareee’s tournament experience
Sareee is not new to round robin tournaments. She previously competed in the Dream Star Grand Prix under Marigold while holding the Marigold World Championship. In the Star League, she accumulated 10 points placing her second in her block. However, Sareee is yet to compete against the STARDOM roster in a round robin tournament setting.
The winner of the 5 Star Grand Prix will earn a shot at the World of Stardom Championship. As of the time of writing, the belt is held by Saya Kamitani. Sareee and Saya are also set to clash in tag team action at Sareee-ISM Chapter VIII on July 14th.
