Mark Briscoe’s Word Of The Day Is ‘Procreation’

Mark Briscoe is the very lucky father of eight children, with a ninth on the way.

Briscoe and his family are featured in Two In One: The Briscoe Story, a new documentary from AEW and The Player’s Tribune that details how The Briscoe (Pugh) family has attempted to heal after Jay Briscoe’s untimely passing due to an auto accident in 2023.

Briscoe spoke with WrestleZone Managing Editor Bill Pritchard about the documentary and having his family involved. Pritchard joked that Briscoe is on pace to have his own baseball team once his ninth child is born. Briscoe had some fun with his answer when explaining how they got to nine kids, but shared how blessed he feels as a father.

“We’re just going along the natural course of how everything goes with a man and a woman. And I guess there are medications or procedures that can be done to slow down the procreation. But, as of now, we got a pretty good pace going,” Briscoe quipped. “Number nine. Who knows, moving forward from there. But yeah, we… There’s never a dull moment. I’ll put it that way.”

Mark Briscoe shares how “easy” parenting is

Briscoe had three girls and a son, then he and his wife took a break from adding a fifth. He joked about things getting easier as a parent, so they resumed having children. Now that some of his kids are older, he also has a few built-in babysitters to make things a little easier.

“And it got so easy being a parent, because — I say ‘so easy.’ It got so much easier after four kids in and out of diapers, and in and out of the terrible twos and terrible threes. But then, Mark Junior is like, four or five years old and like, everybody’s pretty good and it’s pretty easy. So, we decided to have another one. And here comes Malcolm. Another little boy. And then we had another little boy. And then another little boy. And now, so, we had three girls and now boy number six on the way.

“But the three girls are like, built-in baby-sitters, man! They are like little mini mommies. Because they’re getting in their teenage years now. So, they can babysit. We got to run out to the store, want to run down to whatever, Walmart, whatever it may be to tell the girls, ‘Hey, Marl, you are babysitting. Hey, Rye, you are babysitting. Mike, you’re babysitting.’ It’s very easy [now], where in the past we would have to coordinate, line up a babysitter or bring the babies along with us.”

Mark Briscoe on his idea for making the ‘Word of the day’ a running gag

Mark Briscoe turned his “Word of the day” gimmick into a running gag that AEW fans enjoyed. He says the idea really came out of nowhere, and it wasn’t planned. The first word was “conglomeration,” and it went from there.

“Everybody got a kick out of it. And so, we all were like, ‘So, what is the word of the day today?’ ‘Well, how about blah blah blah.’ Whatever it may be. And I mean it was just so as organic as it possibly could have been. It was not… It wasn’t anything but it just happened. And it was just fun. And we were just all just enjoying it. And yeah, people were enjoying it and people were making comments over the word of the day. ‘I wonder what the next word of the day is going to be?’ So, if it ain’t broke, ain’t no need to trying and fix it,” Mark Briscoe said.
