Charlotte Flair Credits Multiple Factors For Getting WWE Fans To Finally Embrace Her

Charlotte Flair is getting over with the WWE Universe in an organic way. She credits part of that success to her ‘Ally of Convenience,’ Alexa Bliss.

Flair spoke with WrestleZone Managing Editor Bill Pritchard over WrestleMania weekend, where she said that she hoped to return to playing a babyface character in the future. She felt that the timing was not right to be a more sympathetic character, but being a fan favorite could work down the line.

Now, Flair is finding more success (and cheers) in her unexpected and odd couple-like partnership with Alexa Bliss. During a follow-up interview at SummerSlam, Pritchard asked if teaming with Alexa came at the right time. Flair said she had no expectations about what was next, which makes it so enjoyable.

“I had no expectations after Mania, and I think that’s what’s been so great,” Charlotte Flair explained. “I poured my heart into The Players’ Tribune piece to let the fans know, hey, this is where I’m at, this is what I’ve been through. And then aligning with Lexi wasn’t something that was planned; it just happened.

Charlotte Flair says teaming with Alexa Bliss has genuinely helped her get over with fans

“Actually, it was her idea,” Charlotte said. “She had all of these creative ideas and it just happened to work out. I think that if it hadn’t been for the ‘Allies of Convenience’ with her and her character, and what that looks like, I don’t know [where I’d be now]. I think it’s helped a lot, genuinely. And it’s a combination of many things.

“I think the Players’ Tribune piece, having Alexa, I think having — I came back and I was in the Money In The Bank qualifier, I was in the Queen of the Ring qualifier, then I was in the tag team with her. So I’ve been sprinkled around in different things and I think that’s helped.”

Charlotte Flair also pointed out that she didn’t go out there expecting people to cheer, either.

“I think that’s what’s been great. I didn’t know what the reception would be like with Lexi or what it would be moving forward, so it’s taking on [a life of its own],” Flair said. “It’s organic and the best things aren’t planned. It wasn’t on my Bingo card.”
