Cody Rhodes believes two matches with Roman Reigns aren’t enough and says a third should happen.
In an interview with Sports Illustrated, Rhodes discussed the possibility of a trilogy match with Reigns. He says that for him, two matches feel incomplete, and he’s open to a third. “That’s probably a very hard match to have happen, but I can see it being very significant in happening again. (For the fans) you can’t just have two. We’re splitting. So, that third exists. I’m certainly not adverse to it. I’m not sure what his outlook on it is. We’re different than we were. I’m not adverse to it.”
Rhodes and Reigns have faced each other twice in singles matches, each winning once. Their first match was at WWE WrestleMania 39, where Reigns beat Rhodes with help from Solo Sikoa. A year later, at WWE WrestleMania 40, Rhodes defeated Reigns, ending his 1,316-day title reign in a historic match. John Cena, The Undertaker, and Seth Rollins all helped Rhodes secure the win.
Since then, they haven’t faced each other in another singles match. They did, however, team up at WWE Bad Blood to take on Solo Sikoa and Jacob Fatu. Fans often speculated about a third match, and Paul Heyman recently revealed that it was discussed at some point for WWE WrestleMania 41.
Cody Rhodes reveals WWE’s next big stars
In an interview with The Bill Simmons Podcast, Cody Rhodes shared his thoughts on the next generation of WWE talent. “Dominik Mysterio will end up becoming a massive star; he already is. But Dom has a connection with the audience, and the work is coming. It’s this kind of reverse, the work is coming. He also works with people that are really his father is the greatest example. When you’re around people like that, you learn things that no one can teach you, right? And other than someone who is I don’t want to use the “over” word but someone who’s extremely popular, someone who’s over… So Dom is someone definitely to look out for in terms of specialness.”
Rhodes also shared that he had a few names from WWE NXT who could become massive stars. “I mean, if you look at NXT, Oba, who’s coming up. Oba’s really special. Ricky Starks, Ethan Page, he’s another one that, if you meet Ethan Page, he could be 50 or he could be 25. He’s got a really unbelievable skill set. That’s what I like the most about WWE currently, if someone was to move or go, we’ve got people ready. We’ve got people ready.”
