Jake Hager isn’t a huge fan of Goldberg wrestling… at least not in 2025.
Hager spoke with Chris Van Vliet about his decision to retire from pro wrestling and what he’s up to now. During the conversation, Hager was asked about being involved in the Michael Cole and Jerry Lawler storyline ahead of WrestleMania 27.
Hager was in Cole’s corner and ultimately took a Stunner from “Stone Cold” Steve Austin during the match. Many fans criticized the quality of the feud itself, as it featured two announcers fighting. However, Hager says it was worth it to him, because he got a featured spot on a WrestleMania card, and the Stunner was big, too.
“I had Jim Ross put me in an ankle lock. But it’s all worth it if you get to take a stunner from Stone Cold at WrestleMania, that’s the payoff. It was worth it for me,” Hager said. “Got a WrestleMania match out of it and it’s all part of the career. This is something I learned from Jericho. You always got to evolve. Like I said earlier, you got to be vulnerable. So if you’re this big, tough guy, you can only do that for so long. Nobody wants to watch Goldberg now. He can’t run a spot. He sucks. Yeah, I said that bitch.”
Does Jake Hager think Goldberg sucks?
Van Vliet followed up, asking Hager to expand on his remarks about Goldberg, who had his WWE retirement match last month.
“He can’t run a spot. The only thing he could do is a f*cking spear and get paid $600,000 for it,” Hager said.
Van Vliet pointed out that Goldberg is 58 years old, but Hager had an answer ready.
“Then stop pro wrestling! Stop coming in and taking our money. Sorry. I’m not sorry.”
Hager was then asked about getting slapped by Cole, who he said “hits like a girl.” When asked who hit him the hardest, Hager gave that honor to himself, although he also gave props to Sheamus for being an equally fun opponent to work with.
