Jim Ross Addresses WWE Return Rumors, Confirms AEW Contract Status

Jim Ross is sticking with All Elite Wrestling.

Ross confirmed he signed a new contract with AEW on his Grilling JR podcast. Ross addressed rumors that he was negotiating with WWE, the company he spent nearly 30 years with, working in several roles, including as a commentator and Executive Vice President of Talent Relations.

Despite his long tenure with WWE, Ross stated that he has no plans to go back and never spoke with them. In addition, Ross confirmed that he signed a new one-year deal with AEW that he believes runs through August 2026.

“Somebody sent me something [online] where I was negotiating with WWE to go back. I hadn’t heard that one, I haven’t talked to them,” Jim Ross said. “[I have] no plans to go back. I’m not saying that out of animosity or anger. It’s just not the right time for me to get more involved in the business.”

Jim Ross said that if he were presented with a new or fresh idea, he might reconsider his options. However, he said that he’s really happy with AEW, noting how he’s not under a lot of stress or pressure in his current role. Ross currently works as a commentator and analyst, as well as a senior advisor for AEW.

“I signed a new (AEW) contract for a year, got that done before I left [to address his recent health issues]. One year, [it runs through] next summer. Next August, I think it is.”

Earlier this year, Ross took some time away from AEW due to being diagnosed with colon cancer. Ross had successful surgery to remove the cancer. Last month, Ross was recovering from a bad fall that happened before he was back on commentary for All In: Texas.
