It appears the “Final Boss” days of The Rock are behind him.
Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson hasn’t appeared on WWE programming in months, with reports suggesting he may be busy filming Martin Scorsese’s upcoming Hawaii-set crime thriller also starring Emily Blunt and Leonardo DiCaprio.
Johnson and Blunt were recently photographed at an event together. The former multi-time WWE Champion appeared noticeably thinner. This sparked rumors he may have bulked down in preparation for his collaboration with Scorsese.
The Rock is reportedly set to play the movie’s primary antagonist. The official logline describes his role as a “charismatic mob boss” who wages a “brutal war against mainland corporations and rival syndicates while fighting to preserve his ancestral land” in the “1960s and ’70s Hawaii.”

The Rock comments on playing Mark Kerr in The Smashing Machine
Johnson and Blunt will next be seen together in A24’s upcoming Mark Kerr biopic The Smashing Machine. The movie is set to release on October 3, 2025.
During a recent interview with Vanity Fair, The Rock opened up about experiencing self doubt prior to filming such a challenging role.
“It was very real,” he admitted. “I had not experienced that in a very, very, very long time, where I was really scared and thinking. ‘I don’t know if I can do this. Can I do this?’ I realized that maybe these opportunities weren’t coming my way because I was too scared to explore this stuff.”
