Kevin Nash isn’t sure that bringing back AJ Lee with her classic skipping gimmick from a decade ago was the right call.
On the latest episode of Kliq This: The Kevin Nash Podcast, the WWE Hall of Famer spoke about the recent return of AJ Lee and how he’s not so sure bringing her back with her previous gimmick was the right idea.
“If you go back in time, the nWo takes off,” Kevin Nash begins. Hogan drops the leg, and then the next time you see Hulk, he’s still in the yellow and red. Does it work as well as the Hollywood? Or do you go with the complete change because now you’ve got some f*cking intrigue?
“I’m only going by shit that works. When she came down to the ring, that was the lowest-rated Netflix Raw that they’d had since they’d been on Netflix. The reason she’s coming down is not to make a phony shit wrestling angle – the reason she’s come down is because another woman is putting her hands on her husband, and he can’t do anything about it.
“If she would have just stormed down, and not even said a word, just went right to her and pummelled the shit out of her. Then if she wants to come out the next week and f*cking skip, she can do what she wants.
Kevin Nash believes AJ Lee’s return should have been done differently
“The first time you see her, though, it’s like, she just showed up because, ‘You know what, man? I’m gonna go to the arena with you next week.’ ‘Nah, babe…’ ‘No f*ck that, I’m going.’ And then the shit goes down, and she inserts herself.
“So then you have her still kind of playing the ‘I’m semi crazy’ character, and you have Bayley kind of playing the semi crazy character also. So now we have two mentally unstable women on the same show. That’s good? There’s no mentally unstable men on the show.” [H/T: WrestleTalk]
AJ Lee and CM Punk have not been seen on WWE programming since their victory earlier this month at Wrestlepalooza.
