Major Star Criticizes WWE Over John Cena’s Retirement Tour Booking

John Cena’s retirement tour has drawn criticism from Paul Walter Hauser, who expressed disappointment with how WWE is handling it.

Speaking on TMZ Inside The Ring, actor and wrestling personality Paul Walter Hauser criticized WWE for how it is handling John Cena’s retirement tour, saying he is unhappy with the booking. The co-host agreed, adding that TKO seems to be running things and making decisions, while Triple H does not appear to be choosing John Cena’s opponents.

Hauser said the tour would have been better if it included a mix of John Cena’s longtime rivals and rising stars who could benefit from facing him. He said, “I think it would have been nice if John Cena’s farewell tour included a great mesh of prior opponents that have known him 20 years, and future stars who could use the rub.”

He suggested several top stars he would have liked to see Cena face one last time. “I would have loved to have seen Cena fight people like The Miz. I think The Miz is better than people give him credit for… but I would have loved to see Cena fight Jericho, The Miz, Sheamus, Triple H.”

Hauser also reacted to Cena’s recent loss to Brock Lesnar at Wrestlepalooza, arguing that such a booking choice only makes sense if it sets up a final victory for Cena in his last match. He said, “Brock, win and beat Brock… If his last match is Brock and he’s like, ‘I have to beat this guy.’ Oh my God.” [H/T: Wrestlingnews.co]

During the same interview, TMZ’s Branson Quirke reacted to claims that Matt Riddle’s attack on him last week was a work.

Arn Anderson would’ve had John Cena dominate Brock Lesnar at WWE WrestlePalooza

Arn Anderson joined the debate on his ARN podcast, suggesting a way to make John Cena’s match with Brock Lesnar more satisfying for fans. He saod, “I would have said, ‘Brock, you are an absolute gorilla, you’re a beast, you have beaten everybody that you’ve ever touched half to death, and the audience gets it. How would you feel about giving — in a shorter match, four to five minutes — giving Cena the entire match, and you catch him out of somewhere with a cheap shot and you hit your finish.’ And both guys win.”

He continued: “That would have been my recommendation on how to structure it. Everybody wins. I’ve still got it mentally, I know what’s right and what’s wrong, and what you can do and get away with, and who lives in the mind of a wrestling fan, what they will accept and what they won’t, and what they appreciate. That just covered all the bases.”
