AEW Collision: Homecoming Results:
Tonight’s episode of Collision kicks off with quick promos from the Triangle of Madness, Kris Statlander, Toni Storm, Harley Cameron, Big Bill, Bryan Keith, Max Caster, Anthony Bowens, Top Gods (FTR and Megan Bayne), JetSpeed, and Willow Nightingale hyping their matches for tonight’s show.
Kota Ibushi vs. Josh Alexander (w/ Don Callis)
- The finish of the match saw Josh Alexander win the match via countout after Kota Ibushi took a rough spill to the outside.
Winner: Josh Alexander
After the match, Don Callis gets on the microphone and says that this is what you get for messing with the family. Mark Davis returns and chokes Ibushi at ringisde. Kenny Omega hits the ring with a trash can and lays out both Alexander and Davis in the process before going over to check on his friend.
Grade: N/A
I had a hard time getting into this match. Knowing for days what happened to Ibushi was just like waiting for the other shoe to drop. It really sucks that the injury happened in such a freak way, and I hope it’s not as serious as we all think it is. Just a real downer of a way to start tonight’s show. In good conscious, I couldn’t give this match an actual grade. Let’s move on…
Some hype for AEW WrestleDream
We get a video package hyping the TNT Championship match between Mark Briscoe and Kyle Fletcher at WrestleDream next weekend.
They follow things up after the commercial break with a video package for the AEW World Championship match at WrestleDream between Hangman Page and Samoa Joe.
Big Bill and Bryan Keith vs. Anthony Bowens and Max Caster
- The finish of the match saw Anthony Bowens hit Bryan Keith with the Molly Whop to score the pinfall victory for his team.
Winners: Anthony Bowens and Max Caster
Grade: B-
The match itself was perfectly fine, but the story that Bowens and Caster are telling right now is better than any match these two can have together. We know that The Acclaimed will eventually get back together, and when they do, I’m sure a majority of the AEW audience is going to be very happy about it.
Big Bill and Bryan Keith have a hissy fit
The Bang Bang Gang are backstage trying to cut a promo, but they are interrupted by Big Bill and Bryan Keith, who are having a temper tantrum over losing their match to Max Caster and Anthony Bowens. The five men face off, but no physicality takes place. Bill and Keith eventually leave.
TayJay vs. Dream Girl Ellie and Carolina Cruz
- The finish of the match saw TayJay hit a double team move on Dream Girl Ellie to score the pinfall victory.
Winners: TayJay
Grade: N/A
Just a really quick showcase match for TayJay. A quick squash match win for Tay Melo and Anna Jay. This probably should have happened on the two-and-a-half-hour Dynamite earlier this week when they only had one women’s match, but I digress.
Kyle isn’t a big fan of the other Kyle
Lexy Nair is backstage with the Conglomeration and Roderick Strong. Kyle O’Reilly is upset about losing to Kyle Fletcher on Dynamite. Orange Cassidy says at this point, Mark Briscoe would be talking about the word of the day, but he’s not there because he’s back on the farm preparing to take the TNT Title from Kyle Fletcher.
Roderick Strong says he’s not part of this, but if it results in him getting his hands on the Death Riders, he’ll do anything to do so. Willow Nightingale hypes up her mixed trios match tonight and screams into the camera as Strong walks away.
We get a video package announcing that GOA will take on The Hurt Syndicate this Wednesday on Dynamite, and the six men will once again face off in a trios match for some reason next weekend at AEW WrestleDream.
Death Riders send a warning to Darby Allin
We get another video package showing the brawl between Darby Allin and Jon Moxley at New York Comic Con. This is followed up by a backstage promo from the Death Riders. Marina Shafir calls Darby Allin a freak and says he needs a real reset. Daniel Garcia says Allin’s crazy act doesn’t work on him and says he lacks structure. Garcia says Darby climbed Mount Everest, and he came back down the same person. Garcia says he’d rather die than end up like him.
PAC says they are different from Darby Allin, and they pride themselves on being the best because they avoid mediocrity. PAC says Darby is desperate for attention, and he got into their business for the last time, and they won’t be responsible for what happens next.
Jon Moxley says the next time he sees Allin, he’s gonna smash his face in, and that’s a promise.
Triangle of Madness vs. Toni Storm, Kris Statlander, and Harley Cameron
- The finish of the match saw Thekla hit Harley Cameron with a spear to score the pinfall victory for her team.
Winners: Triangle of Madness
Grade: B+
Fun match. Wasn’t overly thrilled with the “can they co-exist” story with Toni Storm and Kris Statlander. It’s easily one of my least favorite wrestling tropes. But it was something that needed to happen heading into WrestleDream next weekend, I suppose.
An uncomfortable meeting between Kenny Omega and Jack Perry
We hear from Kenny Omega in his locker room. Omega says Don Callis has made things personal by taking out people whom he cares about and loves. Omega says it’s not going to end until — before he can finish, Jack Perry knocks on the door and comes in.
Perry says he’s sorry about what happened to Kota Ibushi, and if he needs help, he has his back. Omega wasn’t accepting and questioned where all of this was coming from since he is the same guy who took him out in his hometown and mocked him that he might not ever be able to come back. Perry says he knows nothing he can say can make up for what he did, but mentions that they both have the same enemies.
Omega says he doesn’t trust him, and he doesn’t give a f*ck about the big dumb dinosaur, but if he has his back, he’ll see what they can make happen on Dynamite.
Is Harley Cameron a tag team orphan?
Lexy Nair is backstage with Kris Statlander and Harley Cameron. Harley says she needs to confess that she went to Mercedes Mone to try to be her tag team partner to go for the AEW Women’s Tag Team Titles, but it didn’t work out. Statlander says she knows because she watches the show, and tells her she can’t team with her as long as she’s focused on the Women’s World Title.
Cameron questions if she’s a tag team orphan, but Statlander says she isn’t and has a partner in mind for her, but before she can tell us who, Wheeler Yuta comes in and says Statlander used Cameron and is tossing her to the curb after she got what she wanted from her. Cameron tries to fight Yuta, but Toni Storm comes in and gets in Statlander’s face, allowing Yuta to take his exit.
MxM TV (w/ Taya Valyrie) vs. LFI (w/ The Beast Mortos)
- The finish of the match saw Sammy Guevara hit the Swanton Bomb on Mansoor to score the pinfall victory for his team.
Winners: LFI
Grade: B
Perfectly fine match. LFI could use more wins, so this wasn’t a bad idea at all. I wonder how long RUSH is going to accept Sammy Guevara wanting all the pinfalls in the group, though. Because RUSH doesn’t seem like the kind of guy who likes sharing the spotlight.
Eddie Kingston makes his way to the ring at LFI is celebrating to take us right into the next match.
Eddie Kingston vs. The Beast Mortos
- The finish of the match saw Eddie Kingston his The Beast Mortos with the spinning backfist to score the pinfall victory.
Winner: Eddie Kingston
Grade: B+
I love watching Eddie Kingston. This match with The Beast Mortos was a lot of fun. It was a very hard-hitting affair, and Kingston picked up his fourth straight victory since being back with AEW. I’d like to think this is heading to something more important than a match with Sammy Guevara, but I’m not entirely sure what the big plan is just yet.
The weird side build to Blood and Guts continues
The Triange of Madness is backstage, and they are jumped by Jamie Hayter and Queen Aminata as security rushes in to separate everyone. I know the event is still a month away, but the build for this match right now seems very weird. I hope they kick it into another gear soon.
A challenge has been laid out for Dynamite
Katsuyori Shibata is backstage and cuts a cell phone promo challenging RUSH and any two members of LFI to face The Opps this Wednesday on Dynamite for the AEW Trios Titles.
Top Gods (FTR and Megan Bayne) (w/ Big Stoke and Penelpe Ford) vs. JetSpeed and Willow Nightingale
- The finish of the match saw Penelope Ford get involved and help Megan Bayne hit a Doomsday Device on Willow Nightingale. Megan Bayne scored the pinfall victory for her team.
Winners: Top Gods
Grade: B+
After the match, Bayne and Ford tried to continue their attack on Nightingale but were run off by a weapon-wielding Harley Cameron as AEW Collision went off the air.
AEW Collision Review:
A perfectly enjoyable episode of Collision tonight. And that says a lot since we had to start the night with that injury to Kota Ibushi. We got two new matches announced for WrestleDream, some big matches for Dynamite on Wednesday, and a couple of very good matches.
While I would like to know what Kenny Omega is doing at WrestleDream by this point, hopefully, we’ll get those answers on Dynamite. But overall, I enjoyed tonight’s show.
Grade: B
