Frankie Kazarian Defeats Mike Santana For TNA World Title

This week’s episode of TNA Impact ended with a shocking title switch.

Santana’s TNA World Title run began at Bound For Glory, where he defeated Trick Williams for the title. However, TNA went on a hiatus after the pay-per-view, not airing any new shows for four weeks. Impact was live on Thursday night in Orlando, and Santana was set for his first appearance as the new champion.

Santana kicked off the show and addressed the TNA stars who would be waiting in the wings for a title shot. He named Frankie Kazarian and Nic Nemeth, which brought his brother, Ryan, to the ring. After some back and forth, Nic tried to cheap shot Santana, but he stood tall and a match between him and Ryan was made for later in the show.

During the match, Santana was on his way to a win when he was interrupted by Nic Nemeth’s music. Nic was headed to the ring, but he was ultimately attacked by a hooded figure. While this is going on, NXT’s Brooks Jensen, Charlie Dempsey, Lexis King, Channing Stacks, and High Ryze are all inside the ring, led by none other than Robert Stone. They leave as Santana is favoring his arm, and Frankie Kazarian comes to the ring to invoke his title match clause via the Call Your Shot Gauntlet Trophy.

Kaz hits Fade To Black and Santana tries to mount a comeback, but his arm gives out and Kaz rolls him up for the win. Santana is shocked (as are the fans), and he argues with the referee as Kazarian celebrates his big win.

This is Frankie Kazarian’s first TNA World Championship reign. With the win, Kazarian also became the sixth Grand Slam Champion in TNA history. Santana’s title reign ends at 32 days, and he never made an advertised title defense. Check out everything that went down on Impact here.
