AEW Collision Results:
This week’s episode of Collision kicks off with a recap video package from Wednesday’s Dynamite Blood and Guts special event.
Daddy Magic, who was at the broadcast booth, was attacked by Daniel Garcia. Jon Moxley replaced Daddy Magic on commentary for the opening contest.
The Death Riders (PAC, Daniel Garcia, and Wheeler Yuta) vs. Jay Lethal, Adam Priest, and “The Dynamite Kid” Tommy Billington
- The finish of the match saw PAC lock Jay Lethal in the Brutalizer to score the submission victory for his team.
Winners: The Death Riders
After the match, PAC gets on the microphone and says Darby Allin isn’t there tonight after what he did to him at Blood and Guts. PAC is very proud of setting Allin on fire at Blood and Guts. PAC says if Darby is still alive he’ll want some form of petty revenge, but that’s no skin off his ballsack. The Bastard challenges Allin to a match at Full Gear.
Grade: B+
The match itself was very good. But the main takeaway from this match was Jon Moxley’s commentary. He sounds like a different person than the one we know who’s been running the Death Riders for the past year. It’s very clear that a babyface turn is in the cards for him sooner rather than later when his own faction turns on him.
Aussie Open in action tonight in singles matches
Aussie Open, Kyle Fletcher and Mark Davis are backstage with Lexy Nair. Mark Davis says he’s going to hurt Mark Briscoe so badly tonight that he won’t make it to Full Gear. Kyle Fletcher puts over his TNT Title defense later on tonight against Scorpio Sky.
Toni Storm is out for revenge
Timeless Toni Storm and Mina Shirakawa are backstage with Lexy Nair. Toni Storm says five women made her watch a mugging. Storm says they can do what they want to her, but when you touch the woman she loves, then you gain admission to a film that stars five shitass sloptarts and two horror show whores with a lust for vengeance who will lovebomb the crap out of you. Storm says anytime, any place, the show must go on.
Mark Briscoe vs. Mark Davis
- The finish of the match saw Mark Briscoe hit Mark Davis with a Froggy Bow to score the pinfall victory.
Winner: Mark Briscoe
Grade: B+
I’ll be honest. I really wasn’t looking forward to this match. It was just kind of whatever to me. But I ended up really enjoying it. These two worked together very well, and it was a nice win for Briscoe heading into Full Gear next weekend.
Scorpio Sky wants his TNT Title back
Christopher Daniels and Scorpio Sky are backstage. Daniels puts over the work they’ve done with SkyFlight, but believes tonight it’s time for Sky to be selfish and get back his TNT Championship. Sky cuts an impassioned promo about how long it’s been since he’s held the title and the long road it’s taken him to get back. Tonight’s match should be very good.
Backstage, Josh Alexander attacks Kenny Omega’s friend Michael Nakazawa in the locker room. Putting him in the ankle lock and injuring his leg. Alexander says Omega showing up on Wednesday was too late. Alexander makes it clear that if he were to do this now, imagine what he’ll do for a million dollars next weekend at Full Gear.
Tay Melo answers the MxM TV Casting Call.
Taya Valkyrie (w/ MxM TV) vs. Tay Melo
- The finish of the match saw Tay Melo hit Taya Valkyrie with Tay KO to score the pinfall victory.
Winner: Tay Melo
After the match, Marina Shafir attacks Tay Melo from behind and puts her in Mother’s Milk. Timeless Toni Storm hits the ring and takes down Shafir before hitting her with Storm Zero.
Grade: B
This was a fun and unexpected match. A nice showcase for Tay Melo ahead of TayJay’s tag team match. Sucks to hear Anna Jay is under the weather. Hopefully she’ll feel better soon.
We get a video package hyping the steel cage match between Hangman Page and Samoa Joe at AEW Full Gear next weekend for the World Championship.
TNT Championship: Kyle Fletcher (c) vs. Scorpio Sky (w/ Christopher Daniels)
- The finish of the match saw Kyle Fletcher hit Scorpio Sky with a sheer drop brainbuster to score the pinfall victory and retain his title.
Winner: Still AEW TNT Champion, Kyle Fletcher
After the match, Mark Davis attacks Scorpio Sky until Top Flight and Mark Briscoe run out to chase them off. Mark Briscoe gets on the microphone and says the Don Callis Family can’t slow him down. Briscoe says they tried to take him out at Blood and Guts, but he still competed, and they won, and he also beat Davis tonight. Briscoe says to hold his TNT Title tightly tonight because it’s coming home with him at Full Gear.
Kyle Fletcher insists the Don Callis Family had nothing to do with the attack on him at Dynamite and says he’s one title defense away from breaking the record of defenses for a TNT Champion. Fletcher says at Full Gear, he’ll become the greatest TNT Champion of all time, and Briscoe will join the Don Callis Family.
Grade: B
I thought the match was good, but I expected it to be better. If that makes sense? I don’t know. Just something felt off here. I enjoyed it, but it wasn’t up to the standard I expect from either of these men on any given night in AEW.
We get a video package hyping the AEW Women’s World Championship match between Kris Statlander and Mercedes Mone at Full Gear. It was narrated by Renee Paquette.
Alex Windsor and Riho vs. Hyan and Maya World
- The finish of the match saw Riho pin Maya World to score the pinfall victory for her team.
Winners: Alex Windsor and Riho
After the match, Toni Storm and Mina Shirakawa appear on the Tron, and Storm hypes up their future match in the tournament.
Grade: C+
They gave this match way more time than it needed, and it showed. It’s very clear that both of these teams are still very new at being partners, and it showed from both teams. After last week’s drama, I understand why this match got more time, but it wasn’t as good as it needed to be, in my opinion.
Jon Moxley tapped out at Blood and Guts
We get a video package of Kyle O’Reilly and Conglomeration discussing their big win at Blood and Guts after O’Reilly tapped Jon Moxley out. This infuriated Moxley, as the crowd chanted at him that he tapped out. Mox threw his headset down and got on the microphone, challenging The Conglomeration to any match, any time, stating he doesn’t believe they can beat them again. Moxley storms off afterward.
All Star 8-Man Tag: RUSH, Sammy Guevara, and FTR (w/ Big Stoke) vs. JetSpeed, Bandido, and Juice Robinson
- The finish of the match saw Bandido hit RUSH with a 21Plex to score the pinfall victory for his team.
Winners: Bandido, JetSpeed, and Juice Robinson
Grade: A-
The winning team celebrates as AEW Collision goes off the air.
AEW Collision Review:
For a live episode of Collision, nothing about this show felt must-see from an in-ring standpoint. The best thing on the show was the main event, and the rest of the night was very much a mixed bag. One week away from Full Gear, I honestly expected more from tonight’s show than what we got. It felt like AEW punted, which doesn’t make a lot of sense when you aren’t up against any wrestling competition and you have a big show in a week, but it is what it is.
As a normal night of wrestling, the show was perfectly acceptable. But a week before Full Gear? I feel like AEW needed to give us something more tonight than what we got. The main event saved this grade from being lower.
