Bayley recently opened up about how her views on wrestling passion have evolved, especially after working with stars like Carmella and Bianca Belair.
Speaking to The Undertaker and Michelle McCool on Six Feet Under podcast, she discussed the difference between wrestlers who grew up lifelong fans and those who discovered wrestling later. She said, “No it’s not there as much anymore (the passion from being a fan beforehand) but it is my connection to a lot of the girls or guys or whatever.”
“It’s like a different kind of passion, Sami Zayn says it perfectly, ‘We’re the fans who took it too far.’ We’re the biggest fans who took it too far because we’re actually doing it.” She added that this is why she and Mercedes Mone became so close.
She said, “We can relate, ‘Oh my God, you were a 10-year-old who was obsessed with wrestling?’ So I have those relationships with a few of the girls in the locker room.” Bayley also revealed how her perspective changed thanks to women like Carmella and Bianca Belair, who didn’t grow up watching wrestling.
She admitted, “I think Carmella was the one who changed my mind on ‘you don’t need to be obsessed with it like I am to enjoy working with you or being in the locker room with you.’ Some people truly fall in love with it like Bianca, she truly fell in love with this.”
“And her and I get along great, we’re great friends. So you don’t have to grow up obsessed with it to be great or for me to have a great relationship with you, but I do find that it’s like another level.” [H/T: Wrestletalk]
Bayley on how Cody Rhodes understands her wrestling obsession
Bayley said she often talks with Cody about how deeply obsessed they are with wrestling, even though it goes beyond simple fandom. “I also have this conversation with Cody all the time, we just have a sickness level of obsession, although it’s not so much fandom even though being here with you guys is such an honor, and being able to talk with Rey and Randy Orton, Cena and having those relationships with them is such an honor but its two different levels. AJ coming back, it’s like a different level.”
“I love that I still feel this way about it and I love that there’s still a fan in me, but also the professionalism and the passion, the whole other side of that, I’m just grateful I still feel all that. Sometimes when you’re doing this for a while it becomes such business minded and I hate when people lose that part, because to me that’s what makes it so fun and makes it so worth it is if we still feel that way about it, especially if we grew up like that.”
