Seth Rollins Reveals How He Got His WWE In-Ring Name

Seth Rollins explains how he became Seth Rollins in WWE.

Speaking on Mohr Stories, WWE Superstar Seth Rollins explained why the company didn’t let him use his real name, Colby Lopez, or his independent wrestling name, Tyler Black, on television.

“The thing is, John Cena came in as John Cena before they were insistent that they own your name, and they own your character. So, there were a couple of people who got grandfathered in. CM Punk made it, and John Cena made it, and they were probably like the last bastions of… I think Randy Orton. If you were pre, say 2004, you probably got it. Punk would’ve been like the very last one because CM Punk was a big independent name when he got signed.

“When I got signed, they were very much like, ‘Nope, you cannot be Tyler Black,’ which was my name on the independent. ‘No, you cannot be Tyler Black, you cannot be Tyler Beelack. You can’t be anything to do with either of these things. We will own everything about you or everything about the character you play on TV. So, we have to come up with a new name,'” Seth Rollins said.

Dusty Rhodes Came Up With The Name Seth Rollins

Speaking further, Seth Rollins revealed that it was the late Hall of Famer Dusty Rhodes who came up with his WWE in-ring name.

“I just had names on a list. Dusty Rhodes came up with it for me. I had like a bunch of first names. (Speaking in Dusty Rhodes’ voice) ‘I see it now, baby. I see it on the marquee, I see it on the WrestleMania lines right now. It’s Seth Rollins. That’s it, it’s done,'” Rollins said.
