Paul Heyman Reveals Who Really Discovered Top WWE Star

Paul Heyman credits a renowned pro wrestling booker for discovering Austin Theory.

Austin Theory recently returned to WWE and has aligned himself with Paul Heyman and The Vision. However, their history goes back to the Theory’s Evolve Wrestling days in 2019. Heyman appeared in one of the promotion’s shows and gave Theory a Brock Lesnar-like introduction. After the 28-year-old star found his way into NXT, it was Heyman who brought him into the main roster in March 2020 when he was the Executive Director of RAW. However, he doesn’t want to take credit for discovering the rising star.

Reacting to wrestling podcaster Joey Karni’s post on X/Twitter, which credited him for bringing Austin Theory to WWE, Paul Heyman revealed that it was Gabe Sapolsky who discovered the former United States Champion.

“For the record, @BookItGabe deserves all the credit for the discovery of @_Theory1. As Executive Director of @WWE #RAW in 2019/2020, I drafted Theory from @WWENXT for (ironically enough) @WWERollins’ group. Now, he’s a seasoned veteran with a chip on his shoulder ready to step into the spotlight. But the credit for discovering Theory goes to Gabe!”

Gabe Sapolsky began his pro wrestling career working under Paul Heyman in ECW. He then went on to become a prominent promoter and founded companies like Dragon Gate USA and Evolve Wrestling, which is now a WWE developmental brand. He currently serves as a Creative Consultant for WWE and is also the co-founder of the WWE ID program.

Sapolsky also responded to the post, thanking Paul Heyman for the recognition.

“Thank you, sir. I love the independents! Talent like Austin Theory make my job relevant and keep me inspired so everyday I have the same enthusiasm as I did on day 1.”
