A WWE legend believes The Miz is living proof of why storylines and moments are greater than five-star matches and unnecessary bumps.
Matt Hardy has been sharing his opinion on social media that creating compelling storylines is more important than putting on five-star matches, and even advised TNA Wrestling to do the same with its big debut on AMC coming up. He also had a back-and-forth conversation with AEW star Dax Harwood over his comments.
Now, he responded to a fan who pointed out on X/Twitter that The Miz has enjoyed a lengthy and successful career in WWE despite not putting on such stereotypical five-star matches featuring crazy bumps. He agreed with the fan’s take and shared his own experience working with the former WWE Champion.
“You’re not wrong. I love @mikethemiz! When we returned to WWE in 2017, Jeff got hurt right before our fall European tour. I was booked to wrestle Miz in single matches every day for almost 2 weeks straight. I was nervous as I was older & hadn’t wrestled that many days back to back in a bit. Miz Fn GETS IT – We killed it every night of the entire tour. CHARACTER/STORY/MOMENTS > MATCHES/MOVES/DUMB BUMPS.”
The Miz Reveals The Biggest Thing He Learned From John Cena
Speaking in a recent video uploaded on WWE’s official YouTube Channel during the build-up to John Cena’s retirement match, The Miz revealed the biggest thing he learned from his WrestleMania 27 opponent.
“When people say, ‘Oh, he’s the first person here, and he’s the last one to leave, and he works really hard,’ and you hear everyone talk about that, but there’s a different level to it, and John leads by example through that. That’s what I learned from him,” The Miz said. “You want to be in the top spot? You want to be that guy? You have to work harder than everyone.
“Do the things no one else wants to do because everyone’s going to celebrate you when you’re the champion, they don’t ever see the grind, the grit, whatever it takes to be the champion. And when you are the champion, they don’t understand what it takes to have that pressure on you.
“John taught me that just by living and being and doing what he needed to do to be the top person he possibly could be. There’s a reason he’s not only been top in WWE, but also in the movies. Anything he puts his mind to, he can do,” The Miz said. [H/T: WrestleTalk]
