AEW legend and veteran commentator Jim Ross has revealed that if he ever made a surprise return to WWE, there is one match he would love to call.
Ross has been away from WWE since 2019, when he departed to join AEW. Since then, he has remained one of the most respected voices in wrestling commentary. Despite his long-standing commitment to AEW, fans have continued to express interest in seeing Ross return to his former commentary home one last time.
Recently, Ross addressed the possibility of calling a final WWE match during an episode of his Grilling JR podcast. When asked by a fan which wrestler he would like to call if given the opportunity. After Conrad Thompson mentioned Becky Lynch and Cody Rhodes, Ross did not hesitate to name Rhodes.
“Yeah, I’d do a Cody match, probably. I have a lot of respect for Becky Lynch. I helped get her job, and she reminds me of that every time I see her, which is not very often, obviously. But Cody would be on my list of matches to call.”
Ross explained that his personal history with Cody Rhodes made the idea especially meaningful. Having known Rhodes since he was a child, Ross said calling one of his matches would be cool. “There’s a lot of guys on the roster that you could select to book, with Cody that would give you the match that you were looking for. Since I’ve known him since he was a little boy, that would be kind of cool.” [H/T: WrestlingInc]
While a WWE return remains purely hypothetical, Ross’ comments offered fans an intriguing glimpse into what could be a memorable final chapter if the legendary commentator ever steps behind the WWE commentary desk again.
