Oba Femi Seemingly Vacates NXT Championship At New Year’s Evil

Tonight’s WWE NXT New Year’s Evil special ended in controversial fashion as Oba Femi seemingly vacated his title following the main event.

The main event of tonight’s WWE NXT saw Oba Femi defend the NXT Championship against current TNA X-Division Champion Leon Slater.

Despite Slater’s best efforts, he was unable to wrestle the NXT Championship away from The Ruler this evening. The finish of the match saw Femi hit Slater with the Fall From Grace powerbomb to score the pinfall victory.

Femi would celebrate with his championship in the ring to end the show. Or so we thought…

The show cut backstage to Ava in her office speaking to the Evolve roster about the recent call-ups to the main roster and the opportunity for those talents to step up. Before she could continue, Robert Stone burst into the office, questioning if Ava had seen what Femi had just done. We cut back to the ring to see the NXT Championship abandoned in the middle of the ring.

Femi was nowhere to be seen, but Tony D’Angelo could be seen ominously standing in the crowd as NXT went off the air.

Vignettes for Oba Femi have aired on RAW and SmackDown in recent weeks, teasing The Ruler’s inevitable main roster call-up.

Stay tuned to WrestleZone for more information as it becomes available.
