It sounds like WWE’s plans for a top match at WrestleMania 42 have significantly changed in recent months.
Over the weekend, it was revealed that WWE officially has its plans in place for the top matches of WrestleMania 42. What we didn’t know at the time was that meant one of the biggest matches planned for the show would be changing.
On the latest episode of Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer revealed that plans for WrestleMania 42 changed in a big way last Wednesday, which is when the company decided to put the WWE Championship on Drew McIntyre 48 hours later on SmackDown.
In doing so, plans have majorly shifted for the originally planned match between Cody Rhodes and Roman Reigns. A high-profile match that the stage was set for last year at Survivor Series.
“This whole WrestleMania changed on Wednesday of last week, which was when they made the decision to go with the McIntyre title win,” Dave Meltzer stated. “That wasn’t decided until Wednesday… and I don’t know what the new matches are, but they may be doing a three-way with McIntyre, Jacob Fatu, and Cody Rhodes.
“That may not necessarily be at Mania, and that’s not even 100 percent, but I was told that’s kind of like a possibility. But the Cody Rhodes / Roman Reigns thing is probably not happening. But whatever it is, the Mania plans were changed on Wednesday when they made the decision to change the championship.” [H/T: WrestlePurists]
