AEW Collision Results:
Tonight’s episode of Collision kicks off with singles action as Katsuyori Shibata goes one-on-one with Hangman Page.
Katsuyori Shibata vs. Hangman Page
- The finish of the match saw Hangman Page hit Katsuyori Shibata with the Buckshot Lariat to score the pinfall victory.
Winner: Hangman Page
Grade: A-
Really great match to kick off the show. I personally think this should have been saved for the main event, but I don’t mind them kicking the show off hot either.
AEW Women’s World Championship Eliminator Match: Kris Statlander vs. Isla Dawn
- The finish of the match saw Kris Statlander hit Isla Dawn with Staturday Night Fever to score the pinfall victory.
Winner: Kris Statlander
Following the match, Thekla comes on the tron and cuts a promo on Statlander about their match on Dynamite. Thekla spits on a Statlander shirt and throws it in the trash.
Grade: B
Perfectly fine match. Pretty short. But there wasn’t anything wrong with it. This was mainly just done to build the title match for Dynamite.
Jack Perry is looking for revenge
We hear from Jungle Jack Perry backstage. Perry says he’s going to take Ricochet’s National Championship, but that’s not what this is really about. Perry says Ricochet took something away from him way more valuable than championship gold: a friend. Jungle Jack puts over everything Luchasaurus has been through, and Ricochet took it from him, so he will take his title and everything he has, and even then, it won’t be enough.
Protoshita (w/ Don Callis) vs. Billy and Austin Gunn
- The finish of the match saw Konosuke Takeshita hit Austin Gunn with Raging Fire to score the pinfall victory.
Winners: Protoshita
After the match, Kazuchika Okada comes out on the stage. Takeshita flips out, wanting to fight, and has to be held back by Fletcher and Callis.
Grade: B
I don’t think I can think of a faction with worse injury luck than the Bang Bang Gang. I don’t think it’s possible we’ll ever see this group all healthy at the same time. This match was fine. It probably should have been a bit more one-sided, and Billy should have taken the pin, not his son.
Ricochet responds
The Demand are backstage. Ricochet says he’s sorry about Jack Perry’s friend and didn’t know they went that far. Ricochet says he talked to Tony Khan and their National Championship match will take place in his hometown of Las Vegas because Perry’s going to need all the luck that city has to offer. AEW is in Las Vegas for a joint Dynamite and Collision taping on February 4.
Mark Davis and Jake Doyle (w/ Don Callis) vs. Alec Price and Jordan Oliver
- Davis and Doyle win a glorified squash match.
Winners: Mark Davis and Jake Doyle
After the match, Don Callis cuts a promo and says he has a vision of retiring FTR and taking the AEW World Tag Team Titles and his vision will come true thanks to Davis and Doyle. Big Stoke and FTR come on the screen. Stoke says Callis is always a liar. Stoke says FTR will retain on Dynamite.
Grade: N/A
There was nothing here to grade. It was a glorified squash match. Moving on…
Darby Allin is invincible
We get a vignette from Darby Allin, who appears to be fine following his insane match against PAC, and goes to a skate park with Bam Margera.
AEW TBS Championship: Willow Nightingale (c) vs. Julia Hart
- The finish of the match saw Willow Nightingale hit Julia Hart with the Babe with the Powerbomb to score the pinfall victory.
Winner: And still TBS Champion, Willow Nightingale
Grade: B+
Easily the best thing on the show since the opener. This show has been kinda treading water for the last hour. Glad this match put things back on track for me. Really good stuff between these two women.
The Rascalz are ready for The CRU
The Rascalz are backstage smoking and eating junk food. They decide after multiple rock, paper, scissors games that Zachary Wentz and Dezmond Xavier will face The CRU, and Myron Reed will be in their corner.
A new tag team in the women’s division?
We get a vignette of sorts to reveal that Alex Windsor and Jamie Hayter will join forces and become a tag team in the women’s division.
Andrade El Idolo vs. Magnus
- The finish of the match saw Andrade El Idolo hit Magnus with the DM to score the pinfall victory.
Winner: Andrade El Idolo
Grade: B+
Two good matches in a row. You can tell Andrade is having a lot of fun so far being back in AEW. I’m happy for him. This was a damn good matchup.
Andrade El Idolo wants the AEW World Championship
We hear from Andrade El Idolo backstage. Idolo says Don Callis brought him back to AEW because he knows he can win the AEW World Championship. Andrade says he has unfinished business here and wants to be the World Champion. Idolo says Swerve Strickland is standing in his way, so he’ll see him this Wednesday on Dynamite.
CMLL World Heavyweight Championship: Claudio Castagnoli (c) (w/ Wheeler Yuta) vs. Roderick Strong (w/ Orange Cassidy)
- The finish of the match saw Claudio Castagnoli hit Roderick Strong with the Neutralizer to score the pinfall victory.
Winner: And still CMLL World Heavyweight Champion, Claudio Castagnoli
Grade: A-
Castagnoli celebrates his victory as AEW Collision goes off the air.
AEW Collision Review:
The show started out strong with Page and Shibata, but the rest of the first hour was very missable. The second hour really saved this show and swung things back in a positive direction.
Every match in the second hour hit, and overall, it was an enjoyable night of pro wrestling. We had a couple of matches with stakes, and that always makes Collision feel more important.
Grade: B+
