Gunther isn’t just the Ring General anymore.
Earlier this week, WWE applied to trademark “Career Killer” as an on-air nickname. Many fans speculated that this was a new moniker for Gunther, who ended the WWE careers of both Goldberg and John Cena. He’s also set to face AJ Styles at the Royal Rumble on Saturday, and Styles’ WWE career is on the line.
Friday’s WWE Royal Rumble Kickoff show in Saudi Arabia saw those fans’ speculation confirmed as fact. During the broadcast, Michael Cole introduced Gunther as the “Career Killer.”
Gunther taunted the crowd, who met him with boos, by saying AJ Styles wasn’t there, and that this was his time. The former World Champion embraced the hostile crowd and said Styles was hiding because he regretted agreeing to putting his career on the line.
Cole then asked what would happen if Gunther loses on Saturday, and what it would mean for his new Career Killer name.
“Let me ask you, Michael—do you really believe AJ Styles can beat me?” Gunther asked. “Well, you and all of those people are equally stupid! Because tomorrow, I’m going to walk into the Royal Rumble and I’m going to end the career of the Phenomenal One, AJ Styles!”
