Nia Jax Reacts To Criticism Over WWE Announcing Her Weight

Nia Jax shares her take on the criticism WWE received for announcing her weight on TV.

Former WWE Women’s Champion Nia Jax was a recent guest on the INSIGHT with Chris Van Vliet podcast. During the conversation, she opened up about being the only female wrestler most fans remember for having her weight announced.

Nia Jax looked back at the criticism WWE received for announcing her weight. She noted that the company wasn’t trying to shame her in any way and that it was done to showcase how impressive she was with the way she moves in the ring, despite being billed at 270 lbs.

“I know everybody went nuts and they’re like, ‘How dare you announce your weight?’ I was like, whatever,” Nia Jax began. “So I think the idea was just to be like, I know she’s big, but this is how big she is. I’ve always been a heavier girl. If I showed you a picture of me at my thinnest, you wouldn’t even believe I was like 225 pounds at my thinnest.

“So when I was that way, I was heavier than Roman. I was heavier than all The Shield guys. So I think the thought was it’s impressive that you’re this weight and move the way you do. I think they announced me at 270 and that’s a lot of weight. To be able to move and do what I’ve done at 270 is difficult.

Nia Jax believes WWE announced her weight to showcase how impressive she was

“So I think it wasn’t like, oh, let’s embarrass her and shame her. It was more of like, no, we’re trying to show you that’s impressive. Yokozuna, he was a big man, but that guy moved. If you go back and watch his stuff, he can move, and Vince was like, that’s the impressive part about it. I think that’s where the idea came from,” Nia Jax said.

Nia Jax has lost a considerable amount of weight over the years. When asked at what point WWE stopped announcing her weight on TV, she said, “I couldn’t even remember because it wasn’t something [bad], I didn’t have an issue with it. It wasn’t like, I’m so upset. I was like, yeah. They asked me before.”
