A wrestling fan has found a creative way to blend squared-circle history with acoustic strings, transforming iconic promos from Ric Flair and Dusty Rhodes into folk-style songs.
Adam Kirkup, a young musician posting online, recently launched what appears to be a series titled “Day one of turning wrestling promos into folk songs.”
Sitting at home with a guitar and wearing a baseball cap, Kirkup reimagined Dusty Rhodes’ emotional “polka dot” era promo as a stripped-down folk ballad.
Classic Ric Flair and Dusty Rhodes Promos Reimagined As Folk Songs
The adaptation pulls directly from Dusty’s reflective words about fame, family, and regret. Lines such as “When you were born and I set out to seek my fame and fortune, I neglected you” are delivered softly over steady strumming.
The refrain — “If the view never changes” — becomes a haunting chorus. Kirkup even incorporates Rhodes’ self-deprecating humor, including the plea from an “old out of shape, spindle-legged old man” asking to be a partner.
He didn’t stop with The American Dream.
Kirkup also reworked a classic Ric Flair promo into a country-folk tune, complete with melodic “Woo” and “Woohoo” refrains. Flair’s trademark braggadocio — cashmere suits, alligator shoes, Rolex watches, and championship gold — shifts from boastful declaration to rhythmic storytelling. “I’m still the heavyweight champion of the world” lands like a chorus hook rather than a shouted proclamation.
The contrast mirrors the legendary rivalry between Flair’s jet-flying extravagance and Rhodes’ blue-collar heart. In a way, Kirkup’s guitar bridges that clash of worlds — turning limousine rides and hard times into campfire anthems.
Flair and Rhodes rarely crossed paths in WWE as active competitors. However, both remain Hall of Famers whose influence carries through their families and proteges. Now, decades later, their words continue to resonate — just with a different kind of pop. Not a spinebuster pop, but a chord progression.
