Dusty Rhodes Told WWE Hall Of Famer To Quit Wrestling Over Self Doubt

WWE Hall of Famer Diamond Dallas Page, also known as DDP, recently recalled a tough conversation with Dusty Rhodes that completely changed his career.

Back in 1994, DDP was struggling with self-doubt and believed he would never reach the top of the professional wrestling business. At the time, DDP felt stuck in WCW despite working hard.

Dusty Rhodes told WWE Hall of Famer DDP To believe in himself or quit

Speaking on What Do You Wanna Talk About? With Cody Rhodes, DDP remembered venting to Dusty Rhodes about his future. “I am bitching up a storm in late ‘94. So, you know, I’m like 38 years old and I’m this booking committee is never going to, they’re never going to see it in me.”

He admitted he didn’t think he could ever become a World Champion like Dusty Rhodes, Ric Flair, or Hulk Hogan. “You know, Dream, I know I’m never going to be you or Ric or Hulk. I know I’m never going to be the world champion.”

That comment immediately upset Rhodes.

“He said, ‘Enough. What the f* did you just say?'” When he repeated himself, Rhodes fired back. “I’m never going to be the world champion. Then what the f* are you doing it for?”

Rhodes challenged his mindset and told him nobody else would believe in him if he didn’t believe in himself. “If you don’t believe, Dee, as hard as you work, as much time as you put in the business, if you don’t believe, how the hell is anybody else going to believe?”

He continued, “If you don’t believe, you need to get the f*** out of our business right now. I pulled the pad over and I wrote, ‘I will be the world champion in five years or less.’ It was four years, four months and 14 days.”

The moment remains one of Dusty Rhodes’ most famous motivational stories. DDP later achieved his goal and became a three-time WCW World Heavyweight Champion in WCW.
