A championship reign came to an unexpected conclusion on the March 11 episode of WWE Evolve, as one of the brand’s top stars officially moved on to the next stage of her career.
The development followed the night’s main event, where the reigning champion defended her title in what turned out to be her final match on the brand.
What happened after the victory, however, signaled a significant shift both for the champion and the future of the division.
Kendal Grey Vacates EVOLVE Women’s Championship After NXT Promotion
Kendal Grey successfully defended the EVOLVE Women’s Championship against Tyra Mae Steele during the March 11 broadcast. The win marked the final match of her EVOLVE run before transitioning to WWE NXT on a full-time basis.
Following the victory, Grey officially vacated the championship, ending her reign as the second-ever EVOLVE Women’s Champion.
Grey originally captured the title in September 2025 by defeating inaugural champion Kali Armstrong at EVOLVE: Succession. Over the course of her 170-day reign, she established herself as one of the brand’s standout performers.
During that stretch, Grey recorded eight successful title defenses before closing out her run with the win over Steele. Her final victory reportedly came via her “Shades of Grey” finishing move before she relinquished the championship.
The move to NXT continues a growing trend within WWE’s developmental system. In recent months, several EVOLVE champions have vacated their titles upon advancing to higher levels within the company’s roster structure.
Grey’s promotion also marks a milestone for the brand, as she becomes the first woman to move from EVOLVE to a permanent position on the NXT roster.
The episode featured another notable development as well. Timothy Thatcher was introduced as EVOLVE’s new general manager, replacing Steve Turner, who departed the role last fall.
With Grey now headed to NXT and the EVOLVE Women’s Championship vacated, the division enters a new chapter — and the race to crown the next champion is officially underway.
