AEW Star Proposed To His Wife Three Different Times

An AEW star revealed how he ended up proposing to his wife three times.

Amid his lengthy absence from AEW television, Brian Cage spoke to 8-time Olympian Wendy Fortino on The Hot Seat podcast. When the conversation came to his on-screen wedding angle with wife Melissa Santos in TNA Wrestling, he proposed to her on three different occasions.

The AEW star said that while she said yes during the first proposal, they decided to keep it under wraps. However, after some time had passed because of the birth of their daughter, he wanted to re-propose and did it at an independent wrestling show in California.

“I actually proposed to my wife like four times, I think (he later clarified it was three). She said yes every time,” the AEW star said. “There was some back-and-forth. I proposed to her, she said yes, but it was like under wraps. We didn’t announce it. Everything was secretive. Then, before we announced it or even planned all that stuff, she got pregnant.

“We were setting up to move to Vegas then. Then I was doing a tour in Japan. That’s when we moved over here from Studio City. We stayed in California to be closer to her family to help out with the kid. So we never announced that. Then, we have a child. Technically, we’re still engaged, but it’s just been so long now,” the AEW star said.

“So then at a different show here locally, like randomly, I was like, ‘Oh, hey!” I grabbed the mic because she’s the ring announcer, too, for that show, and I start cutting a promo about the match real quick,” the AEW star said. “A lot of people thought that Melissa and I were married because we just had a kid. I go, ‘We’re not,’ and whatever my little speech was. I proposed to her again, and everyone popped huge. So that was the second time.

The AEW star had to propose a third time on TNA television

Speaking further, Brian Cage revealed that had to get on his knees a third time after TNA (then IMPACT Wrestling) wanted to do a wedding angle, so they asked him to propose again on TV.

“Then TNA wanted to do a wedding angle, anyway, with us. We weren’t married, and we’re about to get married. So then it was like, ‘Hey, can you propose again on our TV?’ And I proposed to her. It was a few months difference, though, from our actual wedding to our TV wedding, too. A few months later, we ended up getting married on there as well,” the AEW star said. “I was like, ‘I’m sick and tired of proposing to you.'”

Brian Cage has been out of action since he tore his quads at an independent show in April 2025. Now, the AEW star has confirmed during the same interview that he is fully cleared to return to in-ring action.
