WWE’s Austin 3:16 Day promotional tactic appears to have paid off in a big way.
The Wrestling Observer Newsletter, via F4WOnline.com, reports that WWE’s implementation of a 31.6 percent discount on ticket sales for U.S. shows through June 9, including both nights of WrestleMania, helped the company move a significant number of tickets for its live events and upcoming premium live event.
“This past week saw WWE implement a 31.6 percent across the board sale on tickets for all of its U.S. shows through 6/9, including both nights of WrestleMania. This was done as a gimmick on 3/16 to commemorate Steve Austin’s best selling T-shirt.
“The sale worked, as many house shows sold more than 1,000 tickets and each night of WrestleMania ended up moving in the range of 2,000 tickets.
“At press time, the first night is now up to 39,425 tickets out and the second night is at 40,687 tickets out. It is now 11.2 percent behind the pace of last year’s show in Las Vegas, when it had been consistently about 18 percent behind the pace,” the report concluded.
Steve Austin shares in-ring status update on Austin 3:16 Date
Speaking on Busted Open Radio on Austin 3:16 Day, “Stone Cold” Steve Austin provided an update on his WWE in-ring status. He reflected on his match against Kevin Owens at WrestleMania 38 and said he could have had a better performance with more time to prepare.
“I wish when I had that match with Kevin Owens a couple of years ago, that they would have sent me down the ring so I could have got some timing and some wind and a lot of things, so I could have had a better match with Kevin Owens,” Steve Austin said. But yeah, I’m done.
“I could go out and do something. I’m not lobbying to do that. But I guess it’s cool that people would still, and there’s a lot of people that don’t, so the fact that people are still like, ‘Hey man, it would be cool to see him do something.’ I guess it’s an honor,” Steve Austin said.
When asked who he’d like to have a one last moment with in WWE, the multi-time Hall of Famer said, “Well, s*it, line them up and let me stun them. All those guys that are selling the tickets now, put them in a line, f*ck em!”
Despite fan speculation, Austin did not appear on the Austin 3:16 Day episode of RAW. WWE instead celebrated the occasion by uploading a lengthy video featuring the Rattlesnake’s most memorable promos on YouTube.
