Former WWE Champion John Cena retired from in-ring competition a few months ago, and not everyone was happy about it.
Cena officially stepped away in December 2025 after a long career. He lost his final match to Gunther at Saturday Night’s Main Event. That moment ended his run as a full-time wrestler. He finished his career as a 17-time world champion. It was part of a planned farewell tour that lasted through 2025.
Cena has always been a major influence in WWE. Fans respect him a lot and many wrestlers also look up to him backstage. That is why his retirement hit differently for some people. WWE star Nattie made that very clear.
WWE star Natalya says she wasn’t happy about John Cena’s retirement
Speaking on Busted Open, Nattie admitted that she did not like the idea of him retiring. However, she’s thrilled to see him returning as host of WrestleMania 42, and praised him for the way he carries himself.
“I couldn’t be happier [for him to host WrestleMania 42], because I’m somebody that was very vocal about not wanting to see John Cena go, and I wasn’t happy about him retiring at all. And I told him about it and I told you [Dave LaGreca] about it.
“The one thing I love more than anything about John Cena is the way that he carries himself as far as etiquette goes. I remember when John came to The Dungeon and he was there early, he shook everybody’s hands, stayed there talked to everybody answered everybody’s question, poured his soul out to give advice to everyone.”
“And then after the practice he said to TJ and I, ‘Is there anything I could have done better? What do you guys think? Can you please give me feedback? I’d really love feedback on what I could have done better today.’ And that’s coming from John Cena. That shows what a class act he is.” [H/T: Wrestletalk]
Even after retiring from matches, Cena is still part of WWE. He now works as a brand ambassador for the company. He is also set to host WrestleMania 42 in 2026. That will be his first major role after stepping away from the ring.
