Randy Orton Turns on Pat McAfee at WrestleMania 42

Randy Orton turned on Pat McAfee in a surprising twist at WWE WrestleMania 42.

On the road to his Undisputed WWE Championship match against Cody Rhodes at WrestleMania 42, Randy Orton increased the intrigue by having phone calls with a mysterious person. However, the reveal turned out controversial because Pat McAfee was the mystery caller.

With Pat McAfee in his corner, Randy Orton walked into WrestleMania 42 with the advantage and looked to win his 15th WWE Championship at the event. However, Cody Rhodes and Jelly Roll took McAfee out before the bell rang, and the latter had to be stretchered out.

The match then turned into a proper one-on-one contest with McAfee’s removal. Randy Orton and Cody Rhodes then took each other to their limits, and both of them got busted open in the process. They also performed each other’s finishers and their own to multiple near falls.

The final moments of the match saw Cody Rhodes blinding Randy Orton with a poke to the eye. The latter ended up hitting referee Charles Robinson with an RKO, which allowed Pat McAfee to return to the ring as the replacement referee. However, he came in too late as Rhodes kicked out when McAfee counted the pin after Orton hit him with an RKO.

It caused Randy Orton to surprisingly turn on Pat McAfee and take him out with an RKO. Cody Rhodes used the distraction to his advantage and hit Orton with a Cross Rhodes to pick up the win and retain the title.

Randy Orton, however, wasn’t done. He attacked Rhodes with the title belt, punted him, and stood tall to close the show.
