Seth Rollins has recently opened up about the reality of his WWE career. He gave insight into the physical and emotional struggles he faced ahead of his match against Bron Breakker at WWE Backlash 2026.
Rollins returned from a shoulder injury earlier this year at Elimination Chamber to set up a blockbuster WrestleMania 42 clash. However, Breakker’s hernia injury forced WWE to delay it, and Rollins ended up facing Gunther at WrestleMania.

During a recent interview with Michael Cole, Rollins admitted that this latest recovery was one of the toughest of his career.
“Being in the ring with someone like Gunther is an experience unto itself. First match back after six months on the shelf, so the physical side of things was a bit of a trial,” Rollins said.
He explained that getting older has changed how his body handles wrestling. “I don’t recover like I used to. When I was in my 20s, I felt like I could just reset every day. It didn’t matter what, you know, came before. Now, it’s a different animal.”
Rollins also revealed that recovering from his torn rotator cuff surgery was even harder than coming back from his major knee injury in 2015.
“This recovery from this surgery was, I think, the hardest recovery I’ve had. You know, even with the full knee that I did in 2015. I was just a young man. Like, nothing bothered me. This was hard. This was a very difficult recovery. It was painful, it was slow,” he said.
The former WWE Champion admitted he was worried about getting hurt again during his WrestleMania match with Gunther because of how physical the match was.
“I was concerned that just the physicality of the match with Gunther would cause some sort of regression or a re-injury,” Rollins said.
Elsewhere in the interview, the Visionary gave insight into the difficult nature of dealing with injuries mentally. The 39-year-old superstar also said he knows he may not have many big opportunities left in WWE.
“I’m turning 40 this month, I don’t know how many of these opportunities I’m gonna have left,” the WWE star said.
He also added that every injury comeback becomes harder in every way.
“I think, again, at this stage in my career, every single time I have a setback and I have to reclimb that mountain, it gets harder and harder physically, emotionally, spiritually,” he said.
Seth Rollins has dealt with several major injuries throughout his WWE career. Back in 2015, he suffered a serious knee injury during a live event, tearing his ACL, MCL, and medial meniscus. The injury forced him to vacate the WWE World Heavyweight Championship.
Over the years, Rollins has also battled chronic back pain, another MCL injury in 2024, and neck problems as well.
