Fans showed strong support for Kairi Sane during WWE Backlash in Tampa.
After months of build-up, WWE finally delivered the long-awaited Asuka vs. IYO SKY match at Backlash tonight. As the action began inside the Benchmark International Arena, loud “We Want Kairi” chants broke out from the crowd.
The support continued at various points throughout the match, highlighting how much fans still wanted to see Sane involved in the storyline. For context, Sane was originally part of the feud between Asuka and IYO SKY but was removed from the angle following her reported release after WrestleMania 42.
The April 24 roster cuts reportedly saw WWE release multiple talents from both the main roster and developmental system, including names such as Aleister Black, Zelina Vega, Eric Rowan, and Bo Dallas.
Sane’s exit was initially linked to rumors that she planned to return to Japan, but she has since denied those claims.
Ahead of the match, speculation briefly surged online after a photo of Sane with a fan went viral, suggesting she might appear in Tampa. However, the image was later confirmed to be an older photo taken in November, when she was still part of WWE programming.
