WWE Confirms Asuka’s Future Is Up in the Air After RAW Goodbye

Asuka’s WWE future has become one of the biggest question marks after the release of Kairi Sane and WWE Backlash. And now, it seems like the May 11, 2026, episode of WWE RAW only fueled the retirement speculation.

After her loss to Iyo Sky at Backlash, many fans started wondering if “The Empress of Tomorrow” was preparing to retire. The moment after the match felt very different from a normal match ending. Asuka hugged Sky and briefly broke character. This made many viewers feel like they were watching the end of an era.

The rumors only grew stronger afterward. Fans and even WWE stars started posting tribute messages, and cryptic social media activity added fuel to the speculation. Different reports gave conflicting updates about Asuka’s future.

Michael Cole addressed uncertainty around Asuka’s WWE future on RAW

Many fans expected this week’s RAW to finally give clear answers. Instead, WWE delivered an emotional segment that raised even more questions.

During a backstage moment on RAW, Asuka shared a heartfelt conversation with Iyo Sky.

“I was looking for someone to take over my position. Finally, you’ve become that person. I’m so glad it was you. I’m proud of you,” Asuka told Sky.

Sky responded, “Even if we fight, we’ll always be family… Goodbye, Asuka-san.” Asuka replied with a hug, saying, “See you later.”

Soon after, Asuka was shown leaving the arena with her suitcase and travel bag. The scene felt very similar to a retirement or farewell segment, leading many viewers to believe it could have been her final WWE appearance.

But later in the show, WWE created even more uncertainty. During the commentary, Michael Cole admitted that even WWE may not fully know what’s next for her.

Cole said Asuka’s future is “up in the air” and added, “She appeared to say goodbye tonight, but who knows.”

That matches the mixed reports currently coming from backstage.

Even some insiders are unsure if this is truly the end for Asuka. At the same time, wrestling journalist Dave Meltzer said on Wrestling Observer Radio that he was told Asuka is “semi-retired.” However, he also admitted he could not confirm exactly what that means for her future.

There has also been speculation that Asuka could continue wrestling on a limited schedule, possibly splitting time between Japan and WWE appearances.

No matter what happens next, Asuka’s legacy in WWE is already undeniable.
