JDC opens up about his battle with addiction issues.
Former WWE/TNA star JDC (aka Fandango) has been open about his past substance abuse issues and his sobriety. The subject once again took the spotlight in TNA’s latest Immersed docuseries, where he revealed how bad his addiction was before getting the help he needed.
“In retrospect, looking back over the years, there were so many times where whoever’s in control upstairs was like, ‘Hey, it’s time to get your s**t together.’ And your ego is such a dangerous thing,” JDC explained. “We always tend to think we’ve got everything under control, but it’s very delusional. There’s times where I started missing shows in WWE because I was out partying all night. I should have checked into treatment then.”
JDC shares when he finally decided to ask for help
JDC said that in January 2019, he was sidelined after labrum surgery and had travel plans to go to WWE RAW that week. Instead of going to the show in Oklahoma City, he went to Tampa to party.
“I just talked about self-sabotaging; I didn’t want to go back to TV and fail. Or maybe I thought I would,” he continued, “so I decided to party for three or four days straight. I almost died in a hotel room. And I made a call to Mark Carrano and WWE and said I was ready [to check into rehab]. That was like the best night’s sleep I ever had that night.”
JDC said he went to treatment for 60 days, calling it the best decision he ever made besides marrying his wife.
JDC recently retired from pro wrestling, competing in his final match at TNA Genesis in January.
