AEW’s Rebel Announces New Role After ALS Diagnosis

Former AEW personality Rebel has announced a significant new chapter in her life following her recent ALS diagnosis.

The wrestling veteran revealed that she has joined the patient-led advocacy organization I AM ALS as an official ambassador, using her platform to raise awareness and push for meaningful change.

The announcement comes just weeks after Rebel, whose real name is Tanea Brooks, publicly shared that she had been diagnosed with terminal Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS).

While the diagnosis has dramatically changed her circumstances, she made it clear that she intends to keep fighting — just in a different arena.

Rebel joins I AM ALS to advocate for research and treatment

In a statement announcing her new role, Brooks wrote:

“I am Tanea Brooks. I am Rebel. And now, I AM ALS.”

She continued:

“ALS may be a terminal diagnosis, but I’m showing up to fight as an Ambassador for I AM ALS. This patient-led movement is stepping into the ring every day to drive real progress and passing laws like the ACT for ALS for research and treatments. I’m proud to join I AM ALS and I’m asking you to step into the ring with us. Please take action.”

As an ambassador, Rebel will help advocate for increased research funding, treatment access, and legislation that aims to improve outcomes for ALS patients. Her efforts will also encourage fans to donate, volunteer, and participate in advocacy initiatives.

The announcement follows a difficult two-year medical journey. Brooks revealed in May that doctors at the Mayo Clinic identified ALS while she was preparing for an unrelated lung surgery. She has since shared that the disease has progressively affected her ability to walk and speak.

Rebel remains a familiar figure to AEW fans after joining the company in 2019 and later appearing on television alongside Britt Baker. AEW has also rallied behind her, with the company launching its “Rebel Heart” fundraiser merchandise line and planning additional awareness efforts.

While her battle has changed course, Rebel’s latest move shows she isn’t stepping away from the fight. Instead, she’s turning a personal challenge into a mission to help others facing the same diagnosis.
