For many WWE Superstars, stepping into the ring with The Rock is a dream. Seth Rollins got that opportunity during the road to WrestleMania 40. The experience completely changed how he viewed The Great One. According to Rollins, many critics have the wrong idea about The Rock. Getting to work closely with Johnson showed a very different side of the WWE legend.
Speaking on Prince St. Pizza’s YouTube channel, Rollins talked about his relationship with The Rock and revealed that he sees him as something of a mentor. He also said that many people have the wrong idea about Johnson and what he is really like behind the scenes.
Seth Rollins pushes back against criticism of The Rock
Rollins admitted that wrestling The Rock was never something he expected would happen. When he joined WWE in 2012, Dwayne Johnson had already become a huge Hollywood star. But things changed when The Rock returned to WWE and became a major part of the WrestleMania 40 storyline alongside Roman Reigns, Cody Rhodes, and Rollins.
Looking back, the Visionary said he was fascinated by Johnson’s presence and wanted to learn more about how he approached wrestling after years of success in Hollywood.
“What I was interested in the most was his process because I’m like, here’s a guy who’s done it all. He’s done everything not just in our business but in Hollywood. He is the biggest movie star in the world, and he’s coming back to do a WrestleMania match with us, like, ‘Why? What’s your process? Why do you want to do this? What are you thinking about as we’re putting the story together? And how does what you’ve done now translate to what we’re doing here?’ It was really fascinating,” Rollins said.
While Rollins enjoyed learning from Rock professionally, he admitted a personal experience had an even bigger impact on him.
Rollins recalled how Johnson invited him and his family to the premiere of Moana 2 and welcomed them to the event at a resort. What stood out most to Rollins was that Johnson didn’t have to do any of it. He wasn’t gaining anything from the gesture; he was just being kind.
Seth Rollins also addressed the criticism that sometimes follows The Rock because of his success and popularity.
“People in his position get a bad rap sometimes, and he himself gets a bad rap. It’s all bullsh*t. He’s a good dude. He’s a good guy, and I’m probably blowing off some heat here between me and him. But he’s a really good guy, and like, he’s someone I’d like to have a Yuengling with, or in his situation, some tequila,” Rollins said.
