MJF Pulled From Upcoming Appearance Following Injury on AEW Dynamite

MJF was scheduled to make a rare independent wrestling appearance this weekend. An apparent injury to the AEW World Champion has resulted in him being pulled from the event.

MJF was scheduled to face off with Bobby Orlando at Beyond Wrestling’s June 5 event in Cranston, Rhode Island. That appearance is no longer happening, as Beyond Wrestling says MJF injured his knee on Wednesday’s episode of Dynamite.

Beyond says it’s working on a replacement for Friday’s show. It also looks like MJF will return when he’s physically cleared and his schedule allows.

“Unfortunately @The_MJF hyperextended his knee during his match last night & is not medically cleared to travel or compete,” Beyond wrote. “He will not be in Cranston tomorrow night but assured me he will wrestle for Beyond Wrestling as soon as his schedule allows. We wish him a speedy recovery.”

MJF had planned to take a break from the indies to focus on AEW

The ‘Salt of the Earth’ recently hinted that this might be the last indie appearance he makes for a very long time.

“I’m going to announce that this is probably the last American independent match I’m going to have for an extraordinarily long time,” MJF told Justin Barrasso in an interview released before Dynamite aired. “I need to focus on AEW. I took my eyes off the ball for a millisecond, and a dude who is like 145-fucking-pounds soaking wet beat me. That can’t happen. I don’t care that he hit me in the nuts and spammed his finisher on me four times, and Aubrey Edwards, who is a complete liar, made a fast count. But glass half full, I’m now a three-time champion at the age of 30.”

It’s unclear when the reported injury took place. MJF faced off with RUSH on Wednesday’s show. He successfully retained the AEW World Championship by making his opponent pass out in a crossface submission hold.
